What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optometric Technician (Will Train) position at Kittery Optometric Associates?
We are looking to expand our team of Optometric Technicians.
An Optometric Technician is the bridge between our front desk staff and the doctor. They have a wide variety of responsibilities, but the most important is navigating the mix of time management, task prioritization, and accurate data entry, while making sure patients feel seen, heard, and comfortable. The tech role combines an interest in health sciences, technology, and working with people.
And don't worry, there's NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED. We are happy to train the right person.
So what does an Optometric Technician's day look like?
Their primary responsibilities include:
-Patient Care: Build patient trust and rapport, creating an individualized and positive experience. We expect great customer service, bedside manner, and communication.
- Patient Work-ups: This includes gathering patient information and performing specialized testing such as OCT imaging, retinal imaging, tonometry, and topography.
- Contact Lenses: Learn and maintain knowledge about contact function, brands, and rebates. This also includes training patients how to insert or remove contacts.
- Patient proximity: The job does require getting close to patients in ways such as inserting contacts, removing contacts, inserting drops, and occasionally gently adjusting head posture during testing.
- Administrative Tasks: Including but not limited to charting in the EHR, contact lens orders, prior authorizations of medications, ANSWERING PHONES, and responding to emails.
Other tasks include: Accurate data entry, working with computers and EHR programs, ordering contacts, and more.
HOURS
This position will be full-time (40hrs*) in our Kittery location, with the expectation that covering in our Wells location may be required from time to time. The training period will include days at our Wells location.
Our office hours are M-F (NO WEEKENDS), 8 AM - 5 PM.
