As Head of Finance, you will serve as a key strategic and operational partner to the CEO. You will own all financial planning, reporting, and compliance across Kitchen & Market's six locations and central commissary - keeping the Leadership Team accountable to budgets and driving the financial decisions that support K&M's continued growth.


Who We Are

Kitchen & Market is a female-founded specialty food retailer based in Seattle, WA. Founded by Stephanie King in 2020, K&M operates five retail locations and a central commissary, with a focus on restaurant-quality meal kits and housemade prepared foods. Our housemade products represent 60% of our total volume, and we're building toward national expansion with a team that is passionate about making great food accessible.

The Role

As Head of Finance, you report directly to the CEO. With the support of the CEO, you will forecast budgetary goals, hold the Leadership Team accountable to their labor and COGS budgets, and maintain weekly and monthly budgets. You will work with the CEO to reforecast budgets and make appropriate changes, when necessary, with the ability to anticipate when those changes are needed. You will produce timely and accurate financial statements for all key stakeholders and manage cash flow and A/P payments through the bookkeeper.


This position also carries light HR responsibilities, including payroll processing, renewal of all state and local licenses, and ensuring our payroll platform files all necessary state and local taxes.


You will participate in bi-weekly leadership team meetings and be a strong voice when discussing strategy, processes, and future goals.


Key Responsibilities

Budgeting & Forecasting

•      Budget and forecast across revenue, COGS, and labor

•      Work with CEO to reforecast and adjust budgets as business needs evolve

•      Maintain weekly leadership dashboard including revenue, labor, and COGS actuals

•      Hold team members accountable to weekly and monthly revenue, labor, and COGS budgets


Financial Reporting

•      Produce timely and accurate financial statements for the leadership team and Board of Directors

•      Monthly balance sheet reconciliation across seven entities, including bank accounts, credit cards, and intercompany loan accounts


Cash Flow & Accounts Payable

•      Manage weekly cash flow forecasting

•      Direct the Bookkeeper on A/P payments

•      Oversee and manage the company Bookkeeper


Payroll & HR Compliance

•      Process bi-weekly payroll across seven entities via Gusto

•      Maintain company benefits and COBRA compliance

•      Ensure compliance with local and state agencies, including taxes and all licenses

•      Manage renewal of all state and local business licenses


Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

•      Participate in bi-weekly leadership team meetings as a strategic voice on finance, processes, and future goals

•      Partner closely with the Head of Stores, Head of K&M Product, Marketing Manager, and Business Operations Coordinator

•      Periodically travel to the commissary and store locations as needed


Qualifications

Required

•      10 years of experience in finance or accounting

•      Strong communication skills and ability to hold teams accountable to financial targets

•      Proven ability to manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment

•      Proficient in Excel

•      Proficient in QuickBooks

•      Previous experience with payroll and benefits management

•      Solid analytical skills and the ability to spot trends

•      A genuine passion for food


Preferred

•      B.A. in Finance or a related field

•      Start-up or high-growth company experience

•      Food & Beverage industry experience
