    School year: 40 hours per week – Monday - Friday from 7:00a.m. – 3:30p.m. Note: Notification is hereby provided to any applicant that the hours remain subject to change based upon the District
    need from time-to-time.
    Summer: Work will be shifted according to District needs.
    Salary: $20.88-$22.38


    Job Objective:

    Perform all duties required for the routine care, protection, and preservation of the district’s landscaped areas. Maintain all athletic fields. Assist custodians.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent technical/trade school training is preferred.
    • Valid Ohio Driver’s License. Class B – CDL Preferred.
    • Evidence of a clear record as determined by the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCII) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
    • Basic knowledge of grounds management, associated supplies, and equipment.
    • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
    • Ability to express important information to supervisors and administrators in writing.
    • Custodial and/or maintenance work experience.
    • Proficiency in boiler operations.
    • Knowledge and skill to perform basic electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and mechanical repairs.
    • Knowledge of computerized control systems is desirable.
    • Knowledge of schematic diagrams and blueprints is desirable.
    • Ability to obtain Core Pesticide Applicator, Ornamental Pest Control; 6C, General Pest Control Category 10a License from the ODA.
    • Ability to interpret and comply with OSHA and environmental issues requirements.


    Job Duties, Responsibilities,

    and Essential Functions:

    • Comply with district policies, procedures, and adopted performance objectives.
    • Prioritize and complete authorized work orders and new projects, except in emergencies
    • Perform seasonal activities anticipating weather conditions (e.g., mow grass, fertilize, seed, trim trees and shrubs, etc.).
    • Perform housekeeping tasks (e.g., removal of all debris such as leaves, paper, and litter, etc.).
    • Prepare athletic fields according to all policies, regulations, and provisions of State of Ohio Sports’ Medicine, Ohio High School Athletic Association, and conference/league rules.
    • Learn operation and maintenance procedures for all grounds keeping equipment. Keeps current with advances in equipment technology.
    • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to prevent premature equipment failure (e.g., fluid levels, lubrication, fans, belts, fittings, etc.).
    • Perform regular inspections of grounds/custodial/ maintenance equipment to ensure safe operating conditions. Report damaged equipment to the Maintenance Department.
    • Assist other custodians, when necessary.
    • Assist maintenance person, when necessary.
    • Requisition and maintain an inventory of supplies necessary for routine grounds keeping activities.
    • Verify district activity schedules to find out if a program or special event requires preparation on subsequent clean up.
    • Interpret and comply with all Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations and environmental issues compliance (e.g., blood borne pathogens exposure control plans, hazard communication standards program, asbestos abatement programs, etc.).
    • Interpret and comply with all fire, health, and safety regulations.

    • Organize and provide for the safe storage of all supplies, materials, and equipment. Comply with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations (e.g., mixing and applying chemicals, etc.). Label all hazardous materials. Maintain records of such actions.
    • Ensure the confidentiality of privileged information.
    • Clean, repair, lubricate, and store mowing equipment at the end of the season.
    • Secure grounds keeping equipment and storage facilities at the end of the working day.
    • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work/storage area.
    • Perform custodial duties, as directed, to support the district’s maintenance and housekeeping programs.
    • Report discipline problems, vandalism, or other related concerns to the appropriate authority, as warranted.
    • Initiate action to protect equipment during adverse weather conditions.
    • Remove snow, ice, and debris, as directed.
    • Attend all mandatory district meetings. Participate in training programs, when requested.
    • Maintain a clean, neat appearance and appropriate attire for work.
    • Serve as a role model for students. Demonstrate responsibility, citizenship, respect, and courtesy.
    • Promote school safety.
    • Maintain effective communications with district staff by means of email, texts, phone calls, group and individual meetings.
    • Notify principals before scheduling repairs, to ensure the building routine is not unduly disrupted. Check on the work progress of others to ensure timely completion.
    • Be “on call” to respond to building emergencies at any hour as requested by the Superintendent and/or his or her designee.
    • Perform other duties, as directed.


    Physical and Mental Abilities Required:

    • Ability to lift, carry, or move supplies and equipment weighing up to seventy pounds.
    • Ability to travel freely between and throughout the district’s buildings and grounds.
    • Ability to climb and work from ladders, scaffolds, lift platforms, or other equipment that requires balancing skills.
    • Ability to work in confined spaces or other areas that may require stooping, kneeling crouching and crawling.
    • Ability to handle and manipulate tools and objects that may be small and difficult to grasp or that are large and unwieldy.
    • Ability to identify and express maintenance and grounds keeping concerns and issues to district administrators.
    • Ability to react productively to frequent interruptions and changing conditions.
    • Ability to organize and complete tasks efficiently with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
    • Ability to be punctual and maintain a good attendance record.
    • Ability to maintain a tactful disposition in dealing with administrators, staff, students, parents, and the public.
    • Ability to communicate effectively using language and writing skills.
    • Ability to work cooperatively with others.


    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Assist the Maintenance Department with instructing, training, and directing temporary and/or seasonal help.


    Working Conditions:

    • Frequent operation of a vehicle and/or motorized equipment
    • Frequent exposure to seasonable temperature extremes.
    • Frequent operation of power tools.
    • Frequent contact with oily/greasy tools and equipment.
    • Frequent exposure to fumes and odors.
    • Occasional exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue.
    • Occasional interaction with agitated or upset parents/public.
    • Occasional interaction with disruptive or unruly children.
    • Occasional exposure to electrical hazards.
    • Occasional contact with hot water and other liquids.
    • Occasional exposure to cleaning solvents and chemical vapors.
    • Occasional coverage for custodial absences when needed.
    • Duties will require shift change during the winter inclement weather season to 3:00 am – 3:00 pm may require working during the evening and/or weekend.
