About Kirkwood Stair & Millwork
With roots back to 1899, Kirkwood Stair & Millwork is a privately owned company that manufactures and distributes custom stairs, railings, millwork, and doors for residential and commercial construction. From our 33,000 sq. ft. fabrication facility in Pacific and our design and concept center in Brentwood, our sales, design, and support teams work with builders, architects, and designers to turn plans on paper into finished homes. We're a craft-driven company investing in better systems, modern tools, and people who want to grow with us.
The role
We're looking for an experienced building-products sales professional to grow our custom stair, railing, and architectural millwork business across the St. Louis region. You'll own a book of builder, architect, designer, and trade accounts, win new ones, and turn plans into profitable orders, working alongside our estimating, design, and production teams.
This is not an entry-level role. We want an industry professional who already speaks the language of the trade and knows how to build relationships that last. The role is field-based, working out of our Pacific facility and Brentwood design center.
What you'll do
Grow the business
- Prospect and win new accounts with custom and semi-custom builders, remodelers, architects, interior designers, and trade millwork and cabinet shops
- Build and work a territory plan and pipeline, and meet monthly and annual sales targets
- Represent Kirkwood at builder meetings, HBA and industry events, and in our Brentwood design center
Manage key accounts
- Serve as the primary contact for assigned key accounts and own each relationship from first quote through final delivery
- Visit customer offices and active jobsites regularly, and walk homes with superintendents, designers, and owners
- Spot problems early and see service issues through to resolution
- Work with management on pricing, terms, and credit for trade accounts
Quote and close
- Review blueprints and specifications to scope stairs, railings, trim, and doors, and take field measurements
- Work with estimating to build accurate, profitable proposals, and follow up until they close
- Present design options and selections, and walk customers through our Brentwood showroom
- Confirm orders in our order entry system so production gets it right the first time
Report and improve
- Keep pipeline, forecasts, and activity current and report results to leadership
- Bring back market intelligence on competitors, pricing, upcoming projects, and builder trends
- Help shape our sales process using our ERP, Microsoft 365, and new AI tools
What you bring
Required
- 5 years of outside sales in stairs, millwork, doors, windows, lumber, or building products sold to builders, architects, designers, or trade accounts
- A proven record of meeting or beating sales targets and growing accounts
- Established relationships in residential construction; St. Louis-area relationships are a strong plus
- Ability to read construction plans and discuss stair, railing, and trim details with builders and designers
- Strong negotiation, presentation, and follow-through skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook) and comfort with CRM and order entry systems
- Valid driver's license; driving record must meet our insurance requirements
Preferred
- Experience selling custom or high-end residential projects
- Knowledge of stair building codes, wood species, and finishes
- Experience managing trade or wholesale millwork accounts
- Bachelor's degree in business or a related field
Physical requirements: Able to walk active construction sites, climb stairs (including unfinished stairs), and lift up to 25 lbs.
Pay and benefits
- base salary plus commission, paid weekly by direct deposit
- Company vehicle provided after a 90-day introductory period
- Relocation assistance for the right candidate
- Health insurance with the individual plan 100% company-paid
- 401(k) with company match
- Voluntary dental and vision plans
- Paid time off negotiable
How to apply: Apply through this posting with your resume. A short note on your territory, key accounts, and sales track record is welcome. Offers are contingent on a satisfactory driving record check.
