About Kirkwood Stair & Millwork
With roots back to 1899, Kirkwood Stair & Millwork is a privately owned company that manufactures and distributes custom stairs, railings, millwork, and doors for residential and commercial construction. From our 33,000 sq. ft. fabrication facility in Pacific and our design and concept center in Brentwood, our sales, design, and production teams turn plans on paper into finished homes. We’re a craft-driven company investing in better systems, modern tools, and people who want to grow with us.
The role
We’re looking for a reliable, safety-minded Gang Rip Saw Operator to keep our shop supplied with accurately ripped stock. Every stair part, rail, and piece of trim we build starts at your saw. You’ll turn rough lumber into the right widths at the right yield, so the rest of the shop can do its job.
Experience on a gang rip saw or other production mill equipment is preferred. We will train someone with solid shop experience, good measuring skills, and a strong safety record.
What you’ll do
Run the saw
- Set up, feed, and operate the gang rip saw safely and at a steady production pace
- Read cut lists and work orders, and rip stock to the specified widths and tolerances
- Change blades and spacers, adjust arbor setups, and verify cuts before running production
Get the most from every board
- Inspect lumber for species, grade, and defects, and position boards for the best yield
- Keep waste low and flag material problems to your supervisor early
Keep the shop moving
- Offload, sort, stack, and label ripped stock, and stage it for the next operation
- Coordinate with the moulder, planer, and production teams so work flows without bottlenecks
Work safe and keep it clean
- Follow all guarding, PPE, and lockout/tagout procedures, every time
- Perform basic daily maintenance, keep the saw and work area clean, and report equipment issues right away
What you bring
Required
- 1 years of experience in a woodworking, millwork, cabinet, sawmill, or other manufacturing shop
- Ability to read a tape measure accurately and work to tight tolerances
- Ability to read and follow cut lists and work orders
- A strong safety mindset and a dependable attendance record
- Ability to work at a steady pace while staying focused on quality
Preferred
- Experience operating a gang rip saw, straight-line rip saw, or other production mill equipment
- Knowledge of hardwood species and lumber grading
- Blade and saw setup experience
- Forklift experience or certification
Physical requirements: Able to stand and walk for a full shift, lift up to 75 lbs repeatedly, and work in a shop environment with noise and wood dust while wearing required PPE.
