POSITION TITLE: High School Art Teacher
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED:
*Current Missouri DESE Certification for the appropriate assigned instructional area
*Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with staff

REPORTS TO: Building Principal
CONTRACT DAYS WORKED: 180 Days
JOB GOAL:
The High School Art Teacher will be responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive art education program for middle school students. This teacher will foster students' creativity, promote critical thinking skills, and encourage learning through a range of engaging lessons and projects. The successful candidate will be passionate about art education and dedicated to ensuring that students receive a high-quality art education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive art education curriculum that aligns with state standards and meets the needs of middle school students.
- Works collaboratively with colleagues to develop curriculum, disaggregate student data, and develop strategies to improve student achievement.
- Teaches District-approved curriculum.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
- Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports, and shares information with parents and guardians.
- Promotes parent participation and involvement in educational activities provided for their children and keep parents informed regarding progress (academic and behavioral/social).
- Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
- Serves on District committees as assigned.
- Performs duties as assigned to maintain order and safety.
- Engages in professional development that supports the District’s CSIP, and improves teaching skills and the development of student learners leading to improved student achievement.
- Observes confidentiality regarding students and staff when communicating to others.
- Observes all policies, rules and regulations of the Board of Education as stated in the Board of Education policies.
- Participates in grade level and/or content area, building and district meetings.
Terms of Employment: Wage and work calendar to be established by the Board of Education.
Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the
provisions of the Board’s Policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Other duties as assigned. This does not preclude the assignment of additional or supplemental duties. The District reserves the right to modify the assignment as needed to reflect such duties.
* Supervises classroom, students, aides, volunteers, and areas as assigned.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
* Duties performed typically in district settings to include the cafeteria, gym, recreational areas and other assigned areas.
* Physical demands can include but are not limited to: Exerts up to 40 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects including equipment such as audio-visual.
* Frequent walking, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, and other limited physical activities are required.
* Mental demands can include but are not limited to: Comparing, copying, computing,
compiling, analyzing, coordinating, and synthesizing.
