Position Overview:



As a Mechanical Engineer at Kirk-Rudy, you will play a crucial role in the design, development, and support of automated systems and equipment. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve existing designs, troubleshoot systems, and ensure the production of high-quality products that meet customer expectations. This position requires strong problem-solving skills, the ability to manage multiple projects, self-motivation, organization, the ability to manage multiple projects in parallel, and a focus on driving innovation and efficiency.

Primary Responsibilities:

1.     Mechanical Design and Development: Collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to optimize mechanical designs and assembly workflows. Focus on improving efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness. Identify opportunities for process improvements, waste reduction, and standardization to enhance productivity and reduce cycle times.

2.     CAD Design and Documentation: Develop and maintain complex designs in CAD software (Creo, Windchill, etc) ensuring adherence to Kirk-Rudy’s design guidelines and maintaining organized documentation for future reference.

3.     Technical Support & Troubleshooting: Provide expert technical support to internal teams, including Manufacturing, Service, Sales, as well as to customers when necessary. Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues, analyze root causes, and implement timely, effective solutions.

 Additional Responsibilities:

4.     Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Electrical Engineers, Software Engineers, and other stakeholders to develop integrated design solutions that optimize performance, reliability, and cost effectiveness.

5.     Continuous Improvement: Participate in design reviews, project meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, efficiency, and innovation. Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to mechanical engineering, applying this knowledge to maintain Kirk-Rudy’s competitive edge.

6.     Bill of Materials: Establish and maintain precise bills of materials for assemblies and machines, managing component structures and routings within the ERP system to support manufacturing accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Proven expertise in Mechanical Engineering and Machine Design, particularly with automated systems such as conveyors, feeders, stackers, packaging equipment, etc.
  • Expertise in CAD software. Experience with CREO, Windchill, and CREO sheet metal or other comparable CAD modeling software
  • Equipment design troubleshooting
  • Experience in Project Management and Research and Development (R&D)
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including team management
  • Organizational, time management, and prioritization skills a must
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
  • Experience in the printing or packaging industry is a plus
  • Additional skills such as 3D printing, CNC programming, laser layout, and waterjet technology are beneficial

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience creating and managing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and CAD data flow
  • Proficiency in designing Excel algorithms
