- High School
Key Responsibilities
- Effectively communicate and coordinate with the instructor in order to assist in daily lesson plans
- Aid in preparing materials to be used for projects, including art and science
- Provide individual assistance to children in small groups to ensure an understanding of concepts
- Strictly adhere to the school's rules and policies
- Ensure the safety of the students within the classroom, on field trips, and throughout the campus
- Assist teachers in reviewing, grading and recording homework and tests
- Maintain, observe and assess each student's progress through assessments, and be aware of students who need more one-on-one guidance
Required:
- 1) Bachelor's Degree OR 2) 48 college hours with 2 years of teaching experience
- Active Tennessee state licensure and certification
- Ability to commit to a long-term assignment
- Basic understanding of childhood development and steps to support children of various ages
- Ability to effectively communicate with teachers and parents regarding student's progress and behavior
- Strong organizational skills are essential to aid in preparing materials for several daily lesson plans
- Personal accountability and patience are essential when working with children daily in a classroom environment
- Ability to prioritize activities quickly and support the teacher in instances that are exceptionally busy
- Basic writing, math and science skills are necessary to assist in teaching students and answering their questions
- Ability to manage potentially challenging behavior from students and maintain a professional and patient demeanor
- Experience fostering positive relationships with children and adults in a learning environment
- Experience working with children in a similar demographic area
ADA Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing and actively monitoring student behavior while teaching
- Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times
- Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust height by bending or leaning, to teach each child
- Must be able to facilitate classroom transitions by walking through hallways and up and down stairs with students
