Job Description
- Assumes responsibility for the entire program including:
- coaches the varsity squad,
- supervises assistant coaches 9-12,
- determines athlete participation during practices and games, including squad level and playing time, in conjunction with assistant coach at the respective level.
- positively promotes the athletic program within the schools and the community,
- gives guidance to middle school coaches and programs feeding into respective high schools,
- implements District athletic department polices.
- Assists in the selection and evaluation of assistant coaches.
- Works with the Coordinator of Athletics and building Activities Principal in:
- Works with building athletic director to correlate the practice schedules of the ninth, sophomore, junior varsity, and varsity squads.
- Supervises dressing rooms and playing area during and following periods of team participation
- Remains with students and supervises when traveling to away games.
- Cares for athletes and injured athletes.
- Cares for and maintains equipment and annual inventories.
- Prepares award lists and collects athletic fees.
- Attends all conference meetings or any other meeting where the program is involved. Operates within the policies of the conference and SDHSAA.
- Works closely with custodians in control at facilities.
- Keeps informed on current trends in designated sport and participates in respective clinics.
- Maintains active membership in related professional organization.
- Prepares list when teams are taken out of school to participate in athletic contest.
- Maintains a staff relationship with other coaches.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or Coordinator of Athletics.
