Teaching and learning is at the core of everything we do. The role of an instructional coach is a position of leadership; the work is to support leaders and teachers in ensuring all students learn and achieve within classrooms that are intentional, rigorous, and joyful.  The person in this position will demonstrate a relentless drive toward excellence and a commitment to ensuring that our instruction puts children on a successful path to and through college or career. This role will support and be located at KIPP DC’s elementary, middle, or high schools. Location and Type of WorkThis is an exempt position and will report to the Director of Student Support. As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. Schools operate in person and our students and families rely on us for in-person support which requires this position to be fully on-site. This role is currently required to be on-site or in schools during regular work hours.ResponsibilitiesThe percentages for each key responsibility are estimates, and other duties may be assigned. Flexibility and responsiveness are encouraged to accommodate organizational needs.Coaching and Professional Development (60%)Analyze  teacher and student performance data to design, coordinate and facilitate professional development to increase teacher and leader expertise in all components of specialized instruction: Content, Methodology and Delivery of InstructionReview student performance data to ensure students are meeting proficiency standards and guideposts Support teachers with:coaching, modeling, and serving as a resource to refine teaching practices and identifying appropriate instructional strategies to improve student achievement for students with disabilitiesconducting co-observations and instructional walkthroughs with school teams and Director of Student Supportcase management responsibilities including but not limited to implementing continuous progress monitoring toward IEP goal mastery, reporting out student performance (i.e. IEP progress reports), preparing for and participating in special education meetings (i.e., SEP Meetings, IEP Annual Reviews), and writing high quality IEPsRemain current with best practices and current research on teaching, learning, and disabilitiesApplies a variety of strategies to facilitate team effectiveness, collaboration, problem solving, leadership, meeting management, and conflict resolutionContent and Curriculum Support (25%)Support and assist instructional staff in developing, selecting, and modifying instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students with disabilitiesDrive an instructional vision focused on academic rigor, “work worth doing,” and building student autonomy Support implementation of adapted and modified a standards aligned curriculum, scope and sequence, units, and lessons for students with disabilities across a continuum of educational settingsCollaborate with school leaders, school teams and teachers in the areas of curriculum, instruction and teacher developmentSupport suite of special education learning programsSchool and Network Support (15%)Collaborate with school leaders, Director of Student Support, and network support staff on special education prioritiesSupport school teams in classroom schedule developmentAttend and participate in student support network meetingsPromote the sharing of effective teaching practices among staff throughout the districtEstablish strong family communication and engagement opportunitiesTrain and support special education team members on selection and implementation of classroom/assessment accommodationsSupport all assessment implementation for students with an individualized education programSupport school teams in reviewing the least restrictive environment (LRE) for students and supporting teams in preparing and submitting documentation for formal, internal LRE reviewsTrain and support special education team members on selection and implementation of classroom/assessment accommodationsCreate and facilitate professional development for the Student Support Team, special education teachers, and school teamsPerform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of KIPP DCRequirements & PreferencesRequired QualificationsMaster’s degree in special education or reading OR a Bachelor’s degree and certified in special educationAt least five years of successful school based special education experienceA strong track record of positive student performance results either in literacy/math or across multiple content areas A strong track record of data collection and implementation of modifications for high-incidence disability categories Experience with comprehensive progress monitoring towards IEP goals Experience unpacking grade-level standards, mapped to IEP goals  Experience adapting rigorous unit and lesson plans Preferred QualificationsAt least two years of successful coaching or leadership experience A strong track record of facilitating teachers and/or leaders toward instructional improvementExperience designing leading compelling and useful professional development Experience using multiple assessment measures and observational data to determine coaching and professional development necessary to improvement in teaching and student performance Well-read and current on best practices in specialized instruction Physical
