KIPP is a non-profit network of college-preparatory, public charter schools serving elementary, middle and high school students. Our schools are part of the free public school system and enrollment is open to all students in Baltimore City. KIPP Baltimore was founded in 2002 with the opening of KIPP Ujima Village Academy middle school. In 2009, KIPP Harmony Academy was launched, and they now collectively serve more than 1,500 kindergarten through eighth grade students each day. Both schools are operated by KIPP Baltimore, whose mission is together with families and communities, we create joyful, academically excellent schools that prepare students with the skills and confidence to pursue the paths they choose—college, career, and beyond—so they can lead fulfilling lives and build a more just world.

In addition to the high-quality academic opportunities that students receive while attending KIPP Harmony Academy and KIPP Ujima Village Academy, KIPP Baltimore also makes a long-term investment in our students both while they are at KIPP schools and beyond through the KIPP Through College program. KIPP Through College supports and guides students to gain admission to college-preparatory high schools and helps them succeed and stay on the path to and through college and careers. Today, our KIPP Through College program serves more than 1,100 KIPP alumni. More than 90 percent of our alumni have graduated from high school within four years and 70 percent have matriculated to college.

KIPP Baltimore is part of the national Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP), a network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools in educationally underserved communities throughout the United States. KIPP is a network of more than 200 college- preparatory schools serving nearly 100,000 students.

Job Description

Position Overview

Responsible for monitoring student behavior during meal service, recess, and other specified events. Assists with the cleanliness of the cafeteria, assists with recycling, and the flow of meal service. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Shared Service Team Office Manager with consultation from the Directors of School Operations. Student Support Ambassadors also monitor arrival traffic to ensure that students can get into the school quickly and the traffic flows efficiently.

Position Responsibilities

  • Manages students during meal service, recess, hallway transitions, and other events specified by supervisor (behavior problems will be referred to the teacher or principal according to guidelines established by the individual school).
  • Communicates with students and school staff in a positive and professional manner utilizing appropriate customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Circulates throughout the cafeteria or in other designated areas, and assisting students who need additional support.
  • Assists with the cleanliness of the cafeteria and other areas designated by supervisor.
  • Participates in training sessions, meetings, and scheduled cleaning days as requested.
  • Fosters appropriate and effective relationships with students to gain mutual respect
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Commit to an extended instructional day

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Able to follow instructions and complete tasks efficiently.
  • Physically able to perform duties as assigned (i.e. ability to lift a maximum of 25 pounds; pushing and pulling of carts and tables).
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable about meal pattern requirements (understands federal, state, and local program regulations).
  • Knowledge of proper food safety and sanitation procedures for food service.
  • Ability to use judgment and be dependable.
  • A deep commitment to, and passion for, working with children and families

Starting hourly wage based on experience: $16.84 - 19.20/hour

Selected candidates will need to submit an application to Baltimore City Schools and be deemed eligible for hire before receiving an offer from KIPP Baltimore.
