What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgery Coordinator position at KIOWA DISTRICT HOSPITAL?
Responsible and accountable for the delivery of safe, effective, direct and indirect, patient-family centered care through the continuum of perioperative care to include scheduling, patient contact, coordination with surgeon offices, outpatient surgery, preoperative, OR circulating nurse, post-anesthesia care, sterile processing ,and anesthesia services.
- Qualifications
- The Surgery Coordinator of Kiowa District Hospital must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and maintain a valid Kansas nursing license RN or LPN. Will also accept Surgery Technicians.
- Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Maintain Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), (TNCC) (Surgery Technician excluded from this qualification)
- Responsibilities, The Surgery Coordinator will:
- See that surgeries are properly scheduled including coordination with surgeon offices, and will coordinate the schedule so the department will be available and properly equipped to do surgery.
- Be responsible for obtaining prior authorization if needed from patients' insurance, while also obtaining ABN's when needed.
- See that staffing needs are met for scheduled surgery days.
- Be responsible for the proper cleaning and sterilization of the Operating Room and the supplies used in surgery.
- Be responsible for proper cleaning of endoscopes every week and in between procedures.
- Be responsible for the functioning of the equipment used in surgery.
- Shall meet in interdepartmental meetings.
- Shall keep administration informed of new equipment needed so it may be budgeted.
- Shall be responsible for ensuring proper sterile technique is used by all personnel in the operating room.
- Have operating room ready to start surgery at scheduled times, making sure all supplies are ordered ahead of time and on hand.
- Schedule appropriate pre-operative appointments with patients to review instructions including lab work, NPO status, medications, allergies and paperwork to be completed. Preparing surgery folders.
This is a full-time position of 30-32 hours a week with the flexibility to help pick up shifts in the floor when surgery is slow.
