What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Accountant position at Kinross Charter Township?
Required Education/Training: High school diploma. Must have computer skills & knowledge of proper accounting procedures. (Associate Degree in Business or Accounting helpful, but not required.) Must be available to attend out of town/overnight training, when requested. Must be able to take and pass written or oral examination, as well a physical examination relating to the individual's ability to perform the job.
Duties:
Process all accounts payable activity
Prepare bi-weekly payroll for township employees
Process paperwork, computer input and other requirements for all township employees and seasonal workers
Complete paperwork to add/delete employee's benefits
Calculate 5% of employee's wages for payment into pension plan
Prepare and file monthly payroll reports with IRS and State agencies
Prepare and/or obtain information required for annual audit
Notify insurance company regarding additions/deletions of township assets
Obtain worker's compensation insurance certificated an W-9 forms from vendors, as requested
Prepare and submit new-hire reporting forms to State for all new employees
Understand and support the policies in the Safety Manual of Kinross Township
Prepare and reconcile daily deposit reports
Contact utility companies regarding turn on/off service
Assist with answering phones and taking water payments and tax payments as needed when the office staff is unavailable or on vacation
Computer data entry for accountant as needed
Prepare/review bank reconciliations
Prepare monthly property management lease billing and deep lease payment records
Calculate fringe benefit reimbursement for various departments
Performs other duties as assigned
