ABOUT THE AUDIT MANAGER POSITION
We are seeking an Audit Manager to lead key client engagements and help shape our growing advisory practice. The ideal candidate is hard-working, hands-on, and eager to contribute across all areas of the business. In this role, you will manage client accounts from top to bottom, working directly with client CFOs and leadership teams, and collaborating closely with external audit firms to deliver accurate, timely, and GAAP-compliant financial reporting.
Typical engagements include U.S. GAAP financial statement preparation, purchase price accounting, stock-based compensation and stock option accounting, lease accounting (ASC 842), cash-to-accrual conversions, and other complex, project-based accounting work. You will work primarily with small and middle-market companies including many private equity–owned or investor-backed businesses that rely on Kinline for technical accounting support, clear communication, and fast, practical solutions to complex problems. This role is a strong fit for someone who enjoys variety, can confidently navigate nuanced accounting issues, and takes ownership for driving engagements forward from planning through completion.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
· Lead client engagements to prepare U.S. GAAP–compliant financial statements, including balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, and footnote disclosures.
· Manage field work on financial statement audit and accounting engagements, monitoring progress against budgets and due dates.
· Coordinate and serve as primary liaison among client management, owners, staff, external audit firms, and other stakeholders to resolve audit and accounting inquiries, prepare supporting documentation, and ensure timely completion of financial reporting deliverables.
· Design and prepare purchase accounting entries, including identification, valuation, and allocation of acquired assets and liabilities.
· Develop and maintain supporting workbooks and schedules to justify purchase price allocation, contingent consideration, goodwill, and intangible assets.
· Convert cash-basis or unsophisticated accounting records into accrual-basis GAAP through detailed analysis, adjusting journal entries, and reconstruction of historical financial activity.
· Evaluate complex transactions requiring professional judgment and appropriate accounting treatment, including revenue recognition, impairment, debt modifications, and equity accounting considerations.
· Provide technical accounting guidance across various ASC topics (e.g., ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 805, ASC 350), including preparing memos and position papers to support conclusions and communicate findings to external auditors.
· Assist with client advisory projects such as accounting standard implementation, accounting clean-up projects, and other special projects.
· Interface with private equity–owned and investor-backed portfolio companies from onboarding through ongoing support, including scoping new engagements, establishing work plans, managing communication with CFOs, PE sponsors, and board-level stakeholders, and delivering high-quality, timely advisory support.
· Prepare reporting packages for clients and collaborate with management on trend and budget analysis.
· Answer client inquiries and work with management to triage and problem-solve accounting issues or questions.
· Direct, train, and develop staff and seniors, including planning, supervising, and reviewing their work to ensure technical accuracy, high client service standards, and adherence to internal deadlines.
· Develop structured templates, models, and client workbooks to standardize advisory service delivery and improve operational efficiency.
· Prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines across a diverse client portfolio.
· Identify opportunities for revenue growth and value-added advisory services within existing client engagements.
· Maintain professional and technical knowledge by keeping current on GAAP updates and best practices, attending educational workshops or classes, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
· Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
· Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in accounting or similar field
· CPA or CPA candidate is a strong plus
· 5 years of experience in audit or advisory
· Client service experience and strong communication skills
· Deep knowledge of accounting, financial statements, internal controls and professional standards (GAAP, GAAS, etc.)
· Highly motivated and ability to work autonomously
· Tech-savvy and able to quickly learn new systems
· Experience with QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, Expensify, and Gusto are a plus
