Position Summary
The Field Safety Engineer is responsible for supporting daily safety operations on heavy civil construction projects throughout Arizona. This position partners with project management, superintendents, and field crews to identify hazards, ensure regulatory compliance, conduct inspections, deliver safety training, and help maintain a safe working environment for all employees and subcontractors.

The Field Safety Engineer is responsible for supporting daily safety operations on heavy civil construction projects throughout Arizona. This position partners with project management, superintendents, and field crews to identify hazards, ensure regulatory compliance, conduct inspections, deliver safety training, and help maintain a safe working environment for all employees and subcontractors.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct routine field safety inspections and jobsite audits.
- Assist with implementing and enforcing company safety policies and procedures.
- Identify hazards and work with field leadership to develop corrective actions.
- Lead or assist with incident investigations and prepare detailed reports.
- Facilitate daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
- Monitor compliance with OSHA, company standards, and client safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate safety documentation, inspection reports, and training records.
- Assist with new hire safety orientation and ongoing employee training.
- Ensure proper use of PPE, fall protection, trench safety, confined space procedures, and excavation safety practices.
- Support project teams during client safety audits and inspections.
- Track corrective actions through completion and follow up with field leadership.
- Promote a positive, proactive safety culture throughout the organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred, or equivalent construction safety experience.
- 2 years of construction safety experience, preferably in heavy civil construction.
- Working knowledge of OSHA 1926 Construction Standards.
- OSHA 30 Construction certification required (OSHA 500 preferred).
- Strong understanding of excavation, trenching, underground utility, and earthwork operations.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with field personnel while maintaining accountability.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to travel between project sites throughout Arizona.
- CHST, STSC, ASP, CSP, or other recognized safety certification.
- Heavy civil, underground utility, roadway, or earthwork construction experience.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.
