What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Manager position at Kink Pilates?
ABOUT US:
Kink Pilates is a premium boutique Pilates studio with two locations in the Boston area: one in Newton Highlands and one in Boston’s North End. We are founder-led, growing 75 percent year over year, and known for the quality of our instruction and the vibrancy of our community. We are now adding our first General Manager, a senior operations role that will help us scale into the next phase with discipline and intention.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The General Manager will oversee all studio functionality from Sales to Studio Operations. This candidate will own the operational and commercial performance of both studios, with primary accountability for revenue growth, member experience, team leadership, and the day-to-day systems that make a multi-location studio actually run.
The right candidate does not need a background in Pilates, reformer or otherwise. The pedagogical expertise in this company lives with me and our lead instructors, and it stays there. What the GM needs is the ability to take that expertise seriously, ask the right questions, and integrate it with the things they already know how to read: occupancy, retention, revenue per member, staffing economics, hospitality quality. Their job is not to evaluate teaching. Their job is to combine our team’s pedagogical judgment with the operational and commercial data, and make better decisions than anyone is currently making in isolation.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Two or more years in a management role in boutique fitness, hospitality, or premium retail operation
- A verifiable sales and revenue track record, with specific KPIs they have owned and moved
- Experience leading a location through real change, including restructuring schedules, having hard conversations, and rebuilding systems
- Someone who brings ideas to leadership, not just execution
- Genuinely comfortable with both numbers and direct conversation
- Understands the difference between premium boutique service and a franchise sales model, and has strong instincts about which side of that line every decision falls on
DUTIES:
- GM Revenue and growth across both locations, measured by specific, agreed-upon KPIs around new member acquisition, retention, and sales of memberships, packages, and retail partnerships
- Day-to-day operations across both studios, including ownership of our software stack. We run on MarianaTek for scheduling, billing, and member management, Flodesk and Brandbot for marketing, Fitgrid for instructor feedback, and a small handful of supporting tools. The GM is the lead for these platforms: getting the most out of them, troubleshooting when things go sideways, and managing the relationships with vendor support when they do
- GM is the primary point of contact for client experience and hospitality, including member communications, and the dozens of small interactions that determine whether someone feels well taken care of in our studios.
- Hiring, personnel management, and leadership of a team
- Working alongside the lead instructor team and supporting instructor performance, scheduling, and coverage
- Studio scheduling, sub coverage, and operational rhythms across both locations
- Event coordination, brand partnerships, and the operational glue that holds it all together
COMPENSATION:
This is a full-time salaried role at approximately 40 hours per week, most of which are in-person at the studios or at Kink HQ (Lincoln, MA). You will have a defined but semi-flexible schedule that includes weekdays and one weekend morning. We protect our team’s time outside of working hours because it is the only way to do this job sustainably.
Base pay $70,000 - $85,000 (commensurate on experience) with the opportunity for bonuses based on studio performance, sales, and growth
TIMELINE:
We are hoping to have this role filled ASAP but would make every effort to accommodate the timing needs of an extremely high quality candidate
The first 90 days of this role are an introductory period for both of us. During that time, the General Manager will work closely with me to diagnose both studios, propose an operating plan, and begin implementation. We will hold a formal 90-day review to assess fit, progress, and the operating plan going forward. A second formal review at six months will evaluate performance against agreed KPIs, which we will set together in the first 30 days. Continued employment past either checkpoint is contingent on demonstrated progress and mutual fit. This is a serious role and the review structure reflects that.
TO APPLY:
Send in your resume (I hope that much is obvious). I’m also asking for a cover letter, but I’m going to make you a deal.
I do not want a formal letter. I do not want a list of keywords. I do not want “results-driven,” I do not want “passionate,” and if I see the phrase “thrive in fast-paced environments” I will probably stop reading. You can write me whatever you want, in whatever form you want. It does not need to be polished. It does not need to be structured. It does not need to be a letter at all, technically. It just needs to be yours.
The deal is this. You write it yourself. Not AI. That is the only condition.
This job is people-to-people. I am a person. My clients are people. My team is people. You are a person. AI is not a person, and I will not be able to recognize you through it. Write me whatever you would write if a friend asked you why you wanted this job.
That is what I want to read.
Salary : $70,000 - $85,000
