Service Technician - Parks & Recreation

Essential Functions:


  • Services pools/splash pad pumps/motors and chemical balancing computer systems.
  • Performs general pool maintenance and reports issues to immediate supervisor.
  • Performs maintenance duties at City facilities and grounds including mowing, weed-eating, custodial work and assistance with special events.
  • Make minor repairs to facilities including carpentry, painting and concrete work.
  • Maintains grounds to include mowing, weed eating, cutting grass and trimming trees.
  • Operates a variety of motorized equipment including tractor and trucks, using a variety of power tools including mowers and weed eaters.
  • Assists department personnel as directed.
  • Use good judgement to work safely and use equipment properly.
  • Assists with maintaining clean work areas.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING


  • One (1) year servicing pumps and motors in pool environment
  • Six (6) months using various power tools and hand tools in construction or field maintenance. 
  • Must be available for on-call rotation.
  • Any combination of education and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIRED


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proper techniques and uses of a variety of hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to read addresses, signs, and directions.
  • Good interpersonal skills: Must be able to work with a wide range of people
  • Demonstrates dependability through good attendance and adheres to timelines and schedules
  • Demonstrates resourcefulness and the ability to take initiative in development and completion of projects 
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds and push, pull or drag up to 100 pounds.


Physical Requirements:

Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: 

  • Dexterity: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  • Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand.
  • Visual ability: sufficient to effectively operate office equipment including copier, computer, etc.; and to read and write reports, correspondence, instructions, etc.
  • Hearing ability: sufficient to hold a conversation with other individuals both in person and over a telephone; and to hear recording on transcription device.
  • Speaking ability: sufficient to communicate effectively with other individuals in person and over the telephone.
  • Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Required to work hours other than the regular schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.  Outdoor work environment with extreme temperatures swings. Exposure to noise, mechanical, electrical, odor and dust hazards.


This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee’s physical presence at the workplace.
