Kingston Social is looking for a reliable, detail-oriented Assistant Manager to support daily café and mercantile operations. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys both customer interaction and behind-the-scenes organization.
Key Responsibilities
Opening & Morning Setup
- Open the café according to established procedures
- Prepare and set out pastries and goods in the morning
- Ensure displays are full, fresh, and visually appealing
Cafè Service
- Operate POS and handle customer checkout
- Support Barista team during busy periods
- Rebake sold-out pastries as needed
- Help with dishwashing and bussing tables
Mercantile Oversight
- Keep mercantile area clean, tidy, and well presented at all times
- Monitor inventory and note items that are low, missing, or need pricing
- Assist with light restocking as needed
- Assist customers on the floor
Closing Responsibilities
- Properly dispose of baked goods per guidelines
- Clean and reset café and mercantile areas
- Complete closing checklist and secure the space
Inventory Awareness
- Perform routine inventory checks
- Communicate restocking needs clearly to management
Preferred Experience
- 2–4 years of customer-facing retail, café, or hospitality experience, ideally in a fast-paced, community-oriented environment.
- Previous supervisory or shift-lead experience, including opening/closing responsibilities, staff oversight, and daily operations management.
- Demonstrated ability to support team training, reinforce service standards, and maintain a positive, collaborative workplace culture.
- Experience with cash handling, POS systems, inventory upkeep
- Familiarity with merchandising, product displays, and overall setup.
- Proven ability to work in a customer driven environment with warmth, professionalism, and good judgment
