Role Description The Chief Engineer is a full-time, on-site leadership role based at Kingston Resorts in Myrtle Beach, SC, responsible for overseeing all engineering & maintenance across the resort complex. This role manages preventive and corrective maintenance programs for guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety, and pools. The Chief Engineer leads and schedules the engineering team, assigns work orders, ensures timely completion of repairs, and maintains a safe, clean, and compliant work environment. Daily responsibilities include inspecting facilities, coordinating with vendors and contractors, monitoring energy usage, maintaining regulatory and brand standards, and responding to urgent maintenance issues to minimize guest impact. The role collaborates closely with operations, housekeeping, and events teams to support seamless resort operations and high levels of guest satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Facility and building systems expertise, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, and life safety equipment.
- Experience leading maintenance and engineering teams, with skills in staff supervision, scheduling, training, and performance management.
- Strong background in preventive and corrective maintenance planning, work order management, and vendor/contractor coordination.
- Knowledge of safety, environmental, and building codes, including OSHA standards, fire and life safety regulations, and risk management practices.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, blueprints, operating manuals, and maintenance reports, with solid troubleshooting skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional resort teams and support guest-focused operations.
- Proficiency with maintenance management software, basic computer skills (email, spreadsheets), and familiarity with energy management systems.
- Relevant technical training or certification in engineering, building maintenance, or a skilled trade; prior hospitality or resort experience required.
- Capability to perform physical tasks as needed for inspections
- Hotel maintenance experience is required, preferably with a multi-building property
