Buyer

Position Summary

The Buyer is responsible for the strategic procurement of raw materials, packaging, accessories, and plant supplies to support manufacturing operations. This position oversees inventory management, supplier performance, material availability, inventory accuracy, and purchasing processes while ensuring cost-effective procurement and uninterrupted production.

Procurement & Supplier Management

· Manage procurement of raw materials, packaging materials, accessories, and plant supplies.

· Issue and maintain purchase orders and purchasing documentation.

· Analyze material requirements and inventory levels to support production.

· Develop supplier relationships and monitor supplier performance.

· Coordinate supplier deliveries and freight management activities.

· Communicate material shortages and supply disruptions to plant leadership.

· Develop cost improvement actions and work with suppliers to improve unit cost

Inventory Management & Control

· Maintain inventory levels aligned with production demand and company targets.

· Manage inventory across plant, offsite warehouses, and third-party locations.

· Reduce excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory.

· Lead inventory reconciliations and discrepancy investigations.

· Support month-end inventory reporting and controls.

Auditing & Compliance

· Serve as primary contact for inventory audits.

· Maintain accurate inventory and purchasing records.

· Support financial controls and compliance requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

· Partner with Operations, Planning, Warehouse, Quality, and Finance teams.

· Resolve invoice discrepancies with Accounts Payable.

· Communicate delivery status, shortages, delays, and risks.

Leadership & Team Development

· Provide mentoring, training, and guidance to team members.

· Conduct performance reviews and support employee development.

· Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Safety & Other Duties

· Comply with all safety and company policies.

· Complete required training and perform other duties as assigned.

Education

· Bachelor's degree or associate degree plus significant relevant manufacturing purchasing experience will be considered.

· APICS/ASCM, CPIM, CSCP, CPSM, or other procurement/supply chain certifications preferred.

· Equivalent combinations of education, training, and practical experience may be substituted for degree requirements.

Experience

· 2 years of purchasing, procurement, inventory management, or supply chain experience required in a manufacturing environment.

· Experience purchasing raw materials, MRO, or other production-critical materials preferred.

· Experience managing supplier relationships, negotiating pricing, and resolving supply issues.

· Strong background in inventory control, cycle counting, inventory reconciliation, and inventory accuracy processes.

· Experience supporting inventory audits and maintaining inventory control procedures.

· Demonstrated experience managing inventory levels across warehouse, storage locations, or third-party providers.

· Experience with ERP/MRP systems including purchasing, inventory planning, and material management functions (SAP Preferred)

· Experience analyzing demand, forecasting requirements, and managing material replenishment.

· Proven ability to manage freight costs, supplier delivery performance, and material availability.

· Previous supervisory, lead, or team development experience preferred.

· Experience working cross-functionally with Production, Planning, Operations, Warehouse, Accounting, and Quality departments.

· Strong Microsoft Excel and data analysis skills.

· Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with responsibility for minimizing production interruptions due to material shortages.

· Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

· Effective written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to lead teams, mentor employees, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

· High level of attention to detail and commitment to inventory accuracy.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

· Ability to make sound business decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Full Time

Salary: $80,000 - $85,000 DOE
