What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dietary Aide - RFT - Dietary position at KINGS DAUGHTERS MEDICAL CENTER?
The Dietary Aide may be trained to work in three areas of the Dietary Department which include the dish area, cafeteria, and storage areas.
Responsiblities include:

Dish Area: The Dietary Aide operates the dish machine to ensure all dishes, glasses, silverware, etc. are thoroughly cleaned as to the correct procedure.
- Break down food trays from patients, cafeteria, and catering areas.
- Always keep dish area clean and sanitized.
- Responsible for sweeping and mopping the kitchen floors.
- Wash pots and pans as to proper procedure.
- Work on the patient tray line, learning the proper food required for patient meals.
- Transport meal tray carts to and from the nursing units.
- Fills/delivers late trays and any patient requests to the appropriate nursing unit.
- Stock nursing unit pantries and maintains appropriate par levels.
- Maintain work areas in sanitary, clean condition. Remove trash from dish area.
- Notify supervisor of any equipment issues.
- Cafeteria: The Dietary Aide sets up and serves foods and beverages to customers in the cafeteria area.
- Operate the cash register and ensure customer transactions are correct.
- Monitor supplies and keep supplied.
- Always keeps the cafeteria serving line clean.
- Always assists customers as needed and demonstrates friendly and excellent customer service skills.
- Responsible for sanitation of cafeteria serving line and dining area.
- Notify supervisor of any equipment issues.
- Storeroom: The Dietary Aide checks in all ordered items and stores them in proper areas.
- Responsible for rotating inventory in storage areas.
- Responsible for keeping storage areas including walk-in cooler and walk-in freezer in sanitary, clean conditions.
- Responsible for notifying supervisor of outdated food items and dented cans.
- Responsible for filling condiment containers.
- All Dietary Aides:
- Maintain work areas in sanitary, clean condition.
- Wash hands before handling food to be served, before touchign clean dishes and utensils, and after touching anything soiled.
- Assist with food set-up and clean-up of catering functions.
- Carry out certain duties routinely without direction such as wrapping silverware, setting up patient meal trays, and filling condiment containers.
- Demonstrate good knowledge of safe food practices and willing to learn good infection control techniques.
- Demonostrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Ability to carry out directions from the Dietitian regarding each patient's requirement relative to his/her age specific needs to provide the appropriate preparation of foodl.
- Report any equipment issues to supervisor.
- Follow safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Comply with schedule as established by Dietary Manager.
- Complete other duties as assigned by Dietary Manager, Production Manager and/or supervisors.
Education
- High school diploma/GED preferred.
Special Qualifications
- Ability to communicate, read and write the English language.
- Demonstrates good knowledge of safe food practices and willing to learn good infection control techniques.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
- Ability to carry out directions regarding each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs to provide the appropriate preparation of food.
- Ability to develop a thorough understanding of therapeutic diets through formal education or on-the-job training.
- Able to work rotation of hourly schedules including weekends and holidays.
Physical demands
- Bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, manipulating equipment, temperature tolerance, heavy cleaning, subject to stressful situations and ability to stand for long periods of time.
