STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY: Under the supervision of the Teacher Director/Site Supervisor, the Teacher is responsible for providing educational experiences and child care services to pre-school age children in accordance with the State Department of Education, Title 22 guidelines, Department of Social Services, and Community Care Licensing, Division 12 regulations. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
- Plan and set up classroom structure in accordance with program curriculum.
- Establish classroom rules and set consistent limits on children behavior.
- Review, and plan classroom experiences and routines with teacher assistant.
- Works with teacher assistant/associate to create a social and emotional climate of care and respect that promotes each child’s sense of trust, independence, and competence.
- Documents on-going observation and assessment (child outcomes, progress notes, portfolio samples) for the purpose of individualizing according to established schedules. Conducts parent conferences according to schedule.
- Works with parents in planning activities to meet the individual needs of their child.
- Writes daily lesson plans that reflect the goals of the curriculum and the individual needs of the children.
- Supports volunteer efforts by helping parents and others feel comfortable and valued when assisting in the classroom.
- Assist in training and supervising classroom volunteers.
- Maintain daily attendance and enrollment register.
- Maintain a safe, sanitary classroom and outdoor environment in accordance with State Department of Education and Community Care Licensing regulations.
- Substitute for the Teacher Director/Site Supervisor as requested and be responsible for the Center’s operation in the absence of the Teacher Director/Site Supervisor.
- Supervise and evaluate Teacher Assistant/Associate Teacher with recommendations from Teacher Director/Site Supervisor.
- Provide transportation to children in emergency situations.
- Attend all necessary meetings, conferences, workshops, as required.
- Must have twenty-four (24) units in Early Childhood Education/Child Development (including core courses), plus sixteen (16) General Education units.
- A minimum experience of 175 days of 3 or more hours per day within 4 years in a child care center or setting.
- Must possess/or apply for a Teacher’s permit or a temporary county certificate with in 30 days of hire, until permit from the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing is obtained.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Sensitivity to cultural, economic and language differences.
- Transcripts must be provided with applications.
- Travel and attend out of area meetings and conferences as required per the funding source(s).
- Reliable, insured transportation and valid Driver License.
- Reliably and consistently report to assigned work location on time.
- Work variable hours and days, including those outside regular Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. business hours.
- Meet and maintain KCAO hiring requirements which include:
- Criminal Record Clearance including California DOJ, FBI and Child Abuse Centralized Index (CACI).
- Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) acceptable to KCAO’s vehicle insurer.
- Health examination with tuberculin clearance.
- Employment also contingent on candidate providing documentation of Measles and Pertussis immunizations.
- Influenza immunization highly preferred.
- Ability to be contacted outside of regularly scheduled work hours in case of emergency.
- Standing or sitting for periods which may exceed one or more hours.
- Kneeling, bending, pushing and pulling, sitting and ability to lift 35 pounds.
- Speaking and hearing to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
