Position/Title: SONYC After-School Counselor (Preferred Russian Speaking)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 1:30 pm–6:00 pm or 2:00 pm–6:00 pm

As the largest multi-service agency in South Brooklyn, the Kings Bay Y serves individuals and families of all ages with enriching, inclusive programming.
Program Overview:
Our SONYC After-School Program serves middle school students in grades 6–8 and operates at two locations:
P.S./I.S. 206 Joseph F. Lamb (Public School site)
Kings Bay Y Avenue W Offsite Location
The program offers engaging activities, academic support, and enrichment opportunities designed to help students grow socially, emotionally, and academically in a safe and supportive environment. We provide free transportation from most schools to our Avenue W site, a healthy snack each day, and mini-camps on select holidays and half-days.
General Responsibilities:
Ensure the safe arrival and dismissal of participants daily.
Create a warm, welcoming environment where middle school students feel safe and valued.
Record daily attendance and update rosters as needed.
Assist with serving healthy snacks.
Provide homework help and maintain a homework log for each participant.
Report any unusual behavior to the site supervisor promptly.
Reinforce positive behavior to foster an inclusive and respectful program culture.
Immediately alert the supervisor if any form of abuse or neglect is suspected.
Lead and assist with recreational and enrichment activities, including sports, arts & crafts, STEM projects, dance, and team-building games.
Encourage student participation in all activities that promote mind and body development.
Help students build on their strengths through creative and social experiences.
Attend monthly staff meetings and training sessions.
Requirements:
Must be 17 years or older.
Background check required (clearances completed during onboarding).
Resume required.
Experience working with middle school students preferred.
Russian-speaking candidates strongly encouraged to apply.
Rate:
Starting at $16.50/hour, commensurate with experience.
Monday–Friday, 1:30 pm–6:00 pm or 2:00 pm–6:00 pm
