Job Summary
Yay's Asian Market is an upcoming asian market opening in May 2026. We are seeking a Team Lead, responsible for supporting daily store operations while leading the floor team. This role bridges the gap between staff and management—ensuring tasks are executed correctly, the store runs smoothly, and team members stay accountable.
This is a hands-on leadership role, not just task completion. You will be expected to lead by example, support staff, and help maintain high standards across the store.
Responsibilities
- 1. Team Leadership & Accountability
- Act as the go-to leader during shifts
- Ensure staff are following store procedures and expectations
- Provide direction, answer questions, and keep the team on track
- Address minor performance issues and escalate when needed
- Help train new employees and reinforce SOPs
2. Daily Operations Execution
- Oversee stocking, facing, and overall store organization
- Ensure opening and closing procedures are completed correctly
- Support register operations and assist during busy periods
- Maintain store cleanliness and readiness for customers
3. Inventory & Merchandising Support
- Ensure shelves are stocked, rotated (FIFO), and properly labeled
- Monitor low stock, out-of-stock items, and product quality
- Help maintain backroom organization and storage systems
- Flag issues with pricing, barcodes, or expired products
4. Customer Experience
- Lead by example in providing friendly, helpful service
- Support team in handling customer questions and issues
- Step in to resolve escalations when needed
5. Store Standards, Safety & Communication
- Ensure store is clean, safe, and organized at all times
- Communicate issues (equipment, inventory, staffing) to management
- Support compliance with store policies (including food safety & alcohol policies where applicable)
- Ensure staff are following store procedures and expectations
- Provide direction, answer questions, and keep the team on track
- Address minor performance issues and escalate when needed
- Help train new employees and reinforce SOPs
What We’re Looking For
- Previous retail or grocery experience preferred
- Natural leadership skills (reliable, proactive, accountable)
- Strong organization and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and make decisions on shift
- Comfortable giving direction and holding peers accountable
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift 30–50 lbs
- Second language or familiarity with asian groceries is a plus.
Compensation
- $18/hour depending on experience
- Growth path into Assistant Manager / Store Manager
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
