Job Purpose
As an experienced Trailer Mechanic, you will be responsible for ensuring the proper functioning and maintenance of our fleet of railers. This position involves performing routine inspections, diagnosing mechanical issues, repairing, and maintaining trailers to keep them in optimal working condition, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Performs routine inspections and preventive maintenance on trailers, including brakes, axles, tires, suspension systems, lighting, and other key components.
- Diagnoses mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in trailers and related equipment.
- Conducts thorough troubleshooting to determine the cause of malfunctions and apply the appropriate solutions.
- Executes repairs on trailers including, replacing parts, repairing brake systems, and electrical work.
- Ensures all repairs are completed in a timely manner to minimize vehicle downtime.
- Ensures all trailers comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) standards and regulations.
- Conducts scheduled maintenance and inspections on trailers and equipment to prevent breakdowns and ensure reliable operation
- Follows industry best practices and company procedures to maintain high standards of safety and quality.
- Works closely with the operations and maintenance teams to coordinate repairs and ensure minimal disruption to waste collection operations
- Reports on maintenance activities and any issues affecting trailer performance.
Qualifications
The successful candidate profile includes:
- Commercial Driver's License is a plus but not required
- Welding experience preferred
- Understands work orders and labor time standards
- Experience with maintenance to be performed on trailers and heavy machinery
- ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certifications are a plus but not required
- Minimum 3 years as a heavy-duty technician
- Must be able to perform basic inspections of the following: brakes, drivetrain, emissions, hydraulics, emissions, transmissions, general engine, steering and suspension
