GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Candidate will be responsible for creating a classroom environment that encourages and develops an interest in, and the ability for, creative expression. The candidate will encourage the use of skills and techniques of artistic expression and have an interest in teaching graphic design.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess a Bachelor's degree or higher; valid Virginia Teaching License with the required endorsement (Visual Arts, PK-12; Art Ed. PK-12 or CTE Business & Information Technology).
- Teaching experience at the designated academic level and Master's Degree preferred.
- Must possess ability to communicate effectively verbally, and in writing.
- Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teaches courses in art utilizing curriculum designated by King William County Public Schools and other appropriate learning activities.
- Develops lesson plans to include a balanced art program and organizes daily class time so that instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Adapts the curriculum to provide individual, small group, or remedial instruction to meet the needs of the individual student compatible with the division’s basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course / SOL standards.
- Demonstrates techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, and modeling, using standard and teacher prepared instructional aids.
- Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records as required by the division and at the building level.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
- Instructs students in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students achieve academic success.
- Communicates with parents, administrations and school counselors on student progress.
- Supervises students in assigned out of classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and the community.
- Administers testing in accordance with division testing practices.
- Abides by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
- Attends meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Completes other duties as determined by building level administration.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The candidate will demonstrate knowledge of the necessary principles and application of theory into practice for effective instruction and positive behavioral supports that are beneficial for implementation with all students. The educator also demonstrates the ability to provide positive behavioral support to students in a group and in an individual setting; demonstrates an understanding of the various learning styles and models instruction to address student needs. Designs assessments that provide accurate and usable data to support on-going student achievement. Utilizes current modes of technology to support curriculum and models effective use of a variety of manipulatives/models to support student engagement and comprehension. Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school based staff, students, parents and community members.

SUPERVISOR: Principal JOB CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10-month contract (200 days)
