Job Summary:
The Recreation Assistant provides administrative support to the Manager of Parks and Recreation with the day-to-day operations of the King William County Parks programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Procures and maintains all supplies needed to perform operational activities within the office and programs.
- Prepares reports needed by the Department Director.
- Plans advertising/public information schedules for all department activities in coordination with the Department Director.
- Writes articles for local papers about the department's activities.
- Assist with organization and execution of special events, including planning publicity, acquiring necessary materials, setting up and cleaning up, conducts registrations, and collects fees.
- Prepares notices and correspondence as well as distributes packets for Recreation Commission meetings.
- Oversees design and printing of brochures listing all department activities and prepares bulk mailings of brochures and advertisements.
- Performs administrative tasks such as keeping track of all activities being held at the park, routine inspections needed, develops report and assist with scheduling of staff and events.
- Maintains a current certification in CPR/ First Aid training as well as Medical Administration Training (MAT).
- Answers general questions from the public relating to the programs sponsored by the department as well as Park activities that are scheduled.
- Provides assistance with preparation of programs assigned by the Department Director.
- Fills-in for staff at various programs as needed throughout the whole year.
- Assists with the development of new programs and activities provided by the department.
Requirements
- Experience working in recreation programs either private or public.
- Experience working with volunteers and part-time staffing in recreation activities.
- Able to move from program office support to field program support without difficulty.
- Experience working with children and teen recreational programs.
- Strong organizational skills and excellent communication traits.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and able to learn County and departmental software related to websites, registrations, etc.
Education and Experience
- High School Degree with a minimum of two (2) years' experience in a similar position, with preference for experience in recreational programs.
- Must have current certifications in CPR/First Aid training.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia Driver's License (occasional job-related driving of personal vehicle and/or County fleet vehicles is required).
This position requires moderate degree of latitude for independent judgment and action. Periodic evening and weekend work are required. The position reports to and works under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Director. This position is a part-time (approximately 25 hours per week) hourly position.
