POSITION OVERVIEW

King Street Center is seeking Part-Time K-5 Program Staff to support the supervision of an afterschool classroom for either grades Kindergarten to 1st grade, 2nd grade to 3rd grade or 4th grade to 5th grade. This position will start in January 2025 or sooner. The Program Staff is responsible for implementing engaging activities and curriculum and fostering a developmentally appropriate classroom culture as directed by the K-5 Program Director. Available shifts are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 2:00pm-6:00pm and Wednesday, 1:00pm - 6:00pm for up to 21 hours per week during the school year. Additional hours may be assigned for summer programming or school vacation weeks.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement daily educational and age-appropriate activities and games for students
  • Support student behavior needs with oversight and support from K-5 Program Director
  • Ensure health, safety and enjoyment of students in program.
  • Teach students life skills, appropriate behaviors, and how to make good choices.
  • Interact with students to resolve problems.
  • Support students with reading and math skills during academic time
  • Maintain awareness of student’s participation and whereabouts.
  • Walk children to King Street Center from school at least twice a week
  • General “housekeeping” matters such as classroom clean up, and light facilities maintenance. Support the organization of the K-5 program storage spaces
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance
  • Attend all required training and maintain compliance with licensing standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High school diploma required

Experience

  • Some experience working with children required
  • Some life or work experience (or personal lived experienced) with BIPOC, immigrant and/or low-income communities required

Knowledge

  • Some knowledge of child development preferred but not required
  • Some knowledge of arts and sciences preferred but not required

  • Must pass a criminal background check through the VT Child Care Development Division and complete required training (CPR/First Aid, VT Orientation, Mandated Reporter Training).

  • Collaborates with K-5 Program Director, and other KSC program staff to implement programming.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK CONDITIONS

Work is conducted inside and outside during all seasons. Must be able to be physically active, participate in gross motor games, and walk distances to neighborhood sites. Occasional lifting of furniture, materials and children, weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasional interaction with children and families exhibiting some instability in their behavior. Some potential for risks to physical safety and security of the facility. Potential for injury from physical interplay with children, and for illness passed along from children.

EMPLOYMENT DETAILS

  • Start Date: January 2025 or sooner
  • Pay: $19-21/ hour
  • Hours: Part-time, up to 21 hours/week during school year, additional hours may be offered for summer programming or school vacation weeks.
  • Location: This is an on-site position, with occasional trips off site
