Job Overview
Fitters require a combination of experience, skills, training. Fitters use detailed specifications to complete their role in a project’s construction and carefully inspect their work for imperfections and defects to ensure the structural integrity of their projects. They are educated on workplace safety practices, including the type of protective equipment they need in various situations. They have hands-on skills to assemble, disassemble, repair, and move material. Their focus is maintaining and monitoring the fabrication processes.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and detailed repair drawings
- Assemble and install structural steel according to specifications
- Ensure compliance with industry and safety regulations
- Coordinate with team members to complete projects on schedule
Requirements
- Use technical and soft skills to safely and effectively operate equipment to complete tasks
- Effective communication, including speaking, writing, active listening and taking instruction
- Good leadership and training skills, quick troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Advanced knowledge of blueprints and manuals
- Excellent mechanical skills, including comfort with using tools to make simple repairs
- Great time management
- Keen attention to detail to identify maintenance, product or operations issues
- Ability to stand, sit or be in other physically demanding positions for long periods of time
- Experience with power tools
- Assembling structural steel by utilizing overhead cranes
- Using and reading a tape measure
- Possess problem solving skills
- Knowledge of metallurgy
- Knowledge of various welding techniques
- Assembling pieces of structural steel together
- Welding Equipment that emits high heat, shape
- King Steel uses mig welders (SMAW) for all welding
Pay: $17.50 - $23.00 per hour
