2830 GRADUATION COACH (11 MONTH)                                              

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Alternative Education, responsible for providing assistance to all high school students, individually and in groups, regarding high school graduation and completion. Including but not limited to analyzing data to identify students or subgroups with potential high school graduation difficulties; planning, implementing, and tracking individual high school graduation plans; identifying and resolving barriers to graduation; and facilitating career choices and planning, monitoring and overseeing the building level elearning, and facilitating at virtual instruction as requested.

This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS

  • Monitors elearning program and provides training, mentoring, and oversight for elearning instructors; facilitates elearning courses as requested
  • Provides Edgenuity teachers with consistent and timely updates on programs changes and management
  • Monitors students' progress and needs through daily contact with students, home visits, parental contact, and classroom teacher contact
  • Develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students, with a focus on at-risk students.
  • Works collaboratively with counselors and students to develop an education and career plan for students to include the best program of study to meet academic, graduation, and post-secondary goals.
  • Works with faculty and administrators to develop a grade recovery program and to assist with differentiating instruction to meet the needs of identified at-risk students
  • Develops partnerships with community organizations to support the goals of the high school graduation initiative
  • Works as a liaison between students, parents, teachers, and community agencies to provide services, training, and assistance with support measures available to at-risk youth.
  • Demonstrates equity and cultural proficiency practices in daily activities
  • Assists in the identification of at-risk high school students and collaborate with feeder middle schools to identify at-risk middle school students prior to 9th grade
  • Evaluates and report on the progress of individual students and subgroups of students as they progress toward graduation
  • Analyzes data from various sources (SAT, ACT, SOL EOCs, local records) to identify areas of need and focus;  conduct on-going formative and summative evaluation data of program effectiveness
  • Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures related to graduation requirements and elearning courses.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must possess understanding of best practices for effective elearning/virtual learn programs and courses
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of high school curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught and graduation requirements.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License. Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education.
