  • JOB SUMMARY
    • The Robotics Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, maintenance, and utilization of the surgical robotics program within the operating room. This role serves as the primary resource for robotic surgical procedures, ensuring safe, efficient, and effective use of robotic technology. The coordinator provides clinical expertise, collaborates with surgeons, leadership, and peri-operative staff. The Robotics Coordinator facilitates training and education to support ongoing program development. In addition, the Coordinator manages scheduling, equipment readiness, instrument inventory, and vendor relations, while ensuring compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and evidence-based best practices. By optimizing workflows and supporting the surgical team, the Robotics Coordinator plays a key role in advancing patient outcomes and enhancing the overall surgical experience.
  • DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Overall performance of below indicated essential job duties:
    • Coordinates Robotic block with OR Clinical Coordinator/Leadership & Surgical Services schedulers.
    • Establishes a training pathway for all new hires or those that will be working in the operating rooms designated for robotic-assisted surgical procedures, including assigning online modules, providing an In-Service on the da Vinci® surgical systems, and observing cases.
    • Tasked with plan for sustainable growth of the robotics program.
    • Order and maintain inventory of Robotic instruments and accessories.
    • Order and maintain ancillary supplies related to robotic surgery.
    • Maintain and update OR/Hospital policies related to robotic surgery.
    • Manage routine preventative maintenance on da Vinci® Surgical Systems.
    • Provide In-service for OR Nursing and CST staff on pre-, intra- and post-operative management of the da Vinci® Surgical Systems.
    • Conduct/Coordinate da Vinci® system trainings.
    • Clinical troubleshooting of the da Vinci®  Surgical System during robotic procedures.
    • Set up da Vinci® Surgical System for surgical procedures.
    • Assist as Surgical Technician at the patient side when needed.
    • Supervise the preparation and positioning of patients to assist surgical team.
    • Assist with procedure data collection and management.
    • Support new surgeons interested in robotic surgery.
    • Develop and maintain a Clinical Pathway for individual robotic surgery surgical teams.
    • Coordinates and attends regularly scheduled robotic steering committees and provides operation updates on the progression of the program.
    • Assist with in-servicing Sterile Processing regarding cleaning and sterilization of instruments and accessories.
    • Serve as point person for any da Vinci® related questions (System or Clinical).
    • Liaison between hospital, Intuitive Surgical and health care professionals.
    • Demonstrate da Vinci® Surgical Systems to surgeons or visiting groups.
    • Works with surgeons and nursing staff to lean out preference cards.
    • Creates a metric tracking system for robotic cases to set benchmarks and evaluates progress towards the goals in reduction of non-operative time and a more efficient OR workflow.
    • Determines the need to create trays and where instruments should be peel packed based off of usage metrics and instrument utilization data.
  • EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Minimum requirement:
      • Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist course.
      • Obtain Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification within one year of hire.
      • Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
      • Operating room and robotic surgery experience.
        • Demonstrates basic knowledge of data collection, research protocols, leadership ability and collaborative skills.
        • Knowledge of surgical procedures, including but not limited to Urology, Gynecology, Cardiac Surgery, General Surgery.
    • Preferred qualifications:
  • WORKING ENVIRONMENT
    • Constantly works near moving mechanical parts
    • Constantly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection. 
    • Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
    • Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    • Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting).
    • Frequently required to walk and move about.
    • Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.
    • Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
    • Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.
    • Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
    • Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
    • Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing. 
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
    • Occasionally required to position self in order to meet patient needs.
