Musical Technical Director - Stipend Position

POSITION PURPOSE: The HS Assistant Musical Director/Technical Director supports the district. General duties are described below. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The HS Assistant Musical Director/Technical Director will: ❖Collaborate with the Musical Director to develop scenic, lighting, costume, audio, and props designs for the HS Spring Musical. ❖Instruct HS technical theater students on the construction and decoration of scenery, costumes, and props. ❖Instruct HS technical theater students on the operations of the lighting and audio control consoles. ❖Instruct HS technical theater students on the proper staging of theatrical lighting. ❖Instruct HS technical theater students on the proper use of the personal wireless microphones assigned to specific performers. ❖Instruct HS technical theater students on the safe and proper operations of the HS Grady Theater rigging system. ❖Collaborate with the HS Musical Director to instruct technical theater students on proper stage management functions for the HS Musical. ❖Supervise student teams on the construction/creation and decoration of scenery, props, and costumes for the HS Musical. ❖Supervise student-run crews during rehearsals and performances of the HS Musical. ❖Supervise the strike of the musical set, props, costumes, and other technical features following the closing performance of the HS Musical. SUPERVISION: Supervises students during crew calls and performances. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. (Minimum of 5 years practical technical theater experience required; technical theater college coursework or a technical theater degree preferred.) KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, AND SKILL: Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, teachers, parents, and the district communities; skill in oral and written communication. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must be qualified to operate appropriate scene shop power tools (i.e. table saws, combination miter saws, routers, corded and cordless drills/screw guns, etc.) use appropriate hand tools (i.e. hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.). operate the district hydraulic basket lift. drive the district dump truck or pick-up truck for building materials and equipment retrieval. climb both the double purchase fly system straight ladder and the control booth roof access ladder, the front of house lighting cove/catwalk circular staircase, and the rigging system weight floor stairs. Climb both “A” frame and straight extension ladders. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as reading handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff. The specific vision requirements of the job include good depth perception and occasionally being able to see objects/persons at a distance. While performing the duties of the job the employee frequently is required to hear conversation in quiet as well as noisy environments and be able to tell where a sound is coming from.
