Position Summary
The Claims Coordinator is the primary point of contact for cargo claims, managing the full lifecycle from intake to resolution. This role ensures prompt, fair, and professional handling of claims while minimizing financial exposure and maintaining strong customer relationships for our container shipping operations serving U.S. and Latin American trade lanes.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform cargo claims intake, documenting and acknowledging claims from customers, agents, and internal teams
• Conduct thorough claims analysis, reviewing bills of lading, survey reports, photos, and supporting evidence
• Make claims determinations based on company policy, carrier liability, and applicable regulations
• Negotiate claim payouts with claimants, carriers, and third parties to achieve equitable resolutions
• Coordinate with cargo insurance providers on customer claims, including filing, follow-up, and recovery
• Communicate professionally in English and Spanish with internal stakeholders (operations, sales, finance) and external customers throughout the claims process
• Maintain an accurate, up-to-date log of all claims, including status, financial exposure, and resolution details
• Prepare claims summaries and reports for management review
• Support process improvements to reduce claim volume and improve recovery rates
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
• Associate’s degree in Business, Logistics, Insurance, or related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
• 2 years of experience in cargo claims, insurance adjusting, or logistics coordination
• Experience in container shipping or freight forwarding strongly preferred
• Familiarity with U.S. and Latin American trade lanes a plus
Required Skills & Competencies
• Fully bilingual in English and Spanish (written and verbal) – required
• Ability to remain calm, focused, and solution-oriented in a high-expectation, direct-feedback environment
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
• Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution abilities
• Professional written and verbal communication in both languages
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Ability to manage multiple claims simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
• Knowledge of maritime law, cargo liability, and insurance principles preferred
