What are the responsibilities and job description for the Customer Service Specialist - Personal Property position at King George County?
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:
- Personal Property research to gather information on residents that are not in compliance with registering their vehicles through the Virginia DMV as garage jurisdiction, King George
- Send letters to tax evaders advising them of the need to register their vehicles within 30 days
- Assess a $250 penalty to each resident that fails to comply with the ordinance mentioned above
- Acts as a receptionist/office assistant, greets visitors
- First to answer counter and telephones, provide information, forward calls or directs taxpayer to appropriate party if cannot provide further assistance
- Assist the public with the completion of standardized records or documents
- Update Addresses as needed(provide detailed note for the change)
- Types a variety of documents including correspondence, lists, labels, reports, requisitions, memoranda, reports, door signs, etc.
- Checks items for clerical accuracy and completeness
- Computer Data entry and filing
- Pick up and deliver mail, assist with large mailings
- Check voicemail messages and return telephone calls
- Assist Business License/Excise Tax, Chief Deputy, Real Estate and Personal Property to include Business Equipment when necessary
- Print real estate property sheets as needed
- Help taxpayers with the GIS online services to look up real estate property
- Work with the Treasurer’s office in assisting taxpayers
- Fax, copy, email, and file documents as required
- Performs related tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Some knowledge of the general laws (Code of Virginia, King George County Code of Ordinances) and administration of policies governing personal property and business taxes; general knowledge of modern office practices; ability to make arithmetical calculations quickly and accurately; ability to operate standard office and computer equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED equivalent is required; customer service experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
