GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Under the general supervision of the Gymnastics Coordinator, employee will: assist in recreational gymnastics instruction as needed in accordance with United States Gymnastics Association (USGA) standards and guidelines; instruct classes in the absence of the Gymnastic Coordinator; supervise the KGPR Gymnastics Center during facility rentals and perform associated tasks related to building supervision/maintenance.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Gymnastics Coordinator, Athletic Supervisor, and/or their designee, this position is responsible for:
- Instructing children aged 18 months - 17 years in recreational gymnastics, tumbling, and/or cheer techniques.
- Overseeing activities and drills during practice sessions.
- Monitoring and evaluating participant performance to provide appropriate feedback to the Gymnastics Coordinator and parents.
- Ensuring that each practice provides participants with a positive, safe learning environment.
- Helping to set up the gym before practice sessions and clean up the gym after practice sessions.
- Helping program participants to sign in and keeping a record of participant attendance.
- Serving as the main instructor in the absence of the Gymnastics Coordinator. Securing facility upon completion of program activities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability and desire to work with and motivate young children.
- Ability to understand oral and written communications.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
- Strong customer service skills and able to work with the general public in a respectful way.
- General knowledge (including safety precautions) of gymnastics equipment (parallel bars, uneven bars, balance beams, pommel horse, floor mats, and other gymnastic equipment.
- Specific knowledge or experience in performing or providing gymnastics and tumbling instruction to youth participants.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma required.
- Some college course work in physical education, teaching, or parks and recreation management is preferred but not required.
- Current United States Gymnastics Association (USGA) certification is preferred but not required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must consent to a pre-employment background check after receiving a conditional offer of employment.
- Must satisfactorily complete said background check.
- Must have a valid driver's license and/or be able to provide own transportation.
- Must knowingly accept position as evening/weekend/seasonal work.
- General hours for gymnastics programs: Monday - Friday from 4:30 pm - 8:00 pm; Saturdays from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
- General hours for facility rentals: Saturdays from 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm; Sundays from 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm
- Hours and days will vary based on activities or programs occurring.
