King County’s Water and Land Resources Division is seeking three (3) motivated and detail-oriented professionals to join our inaugural Stormwater CCTV Inspection Team as Stormwater CCTV Inspectors (Engineer I).

About the Role

In this hands-on, field-based role, you will inspect and assess stormwater infrastructure throughout King County using specialized CCTV inspection equipment and software. Your work will directly support flood risk reduction, infrastructure reliability, public safety, and water quality protection for communities across the region.

This is an exciting opportunity to help launch and shape a new inspection program from the ground up while building expertise in underground infrastructure assessment, asset management, and stormwater operations. Successful candidates will enjoy working outdoors, operating advanced inspection equipment, troubleshooting technical issues, and collaborating with maintenance crews, engineers, and operations staff to support sustainable public infrastructure systems.

About the Team

These positions are part of the Asset Management Unit (AMU) within the Stormwater Services Section of King County’s Water and Land Resources Division. The team is responsible for managing and maintaining critical stormwater infrastructure throughout King County to support safe, resilient, and environmentally responsible communities.

AMU works collaboratively across disciplines to inspect, maintain, and improve stormwater assets while supporting compliance with local, state, and federal requirements. This work directly contributes to King County’s Clean Water Healthy Habitat goals and broader commitments to environmental stewardship, equity, and sustainable service delivery.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
  • Use CCTV inspection equipment, including cameras, transporters, and associated systems, to conduct thorough video inspections of pipes, culverts, catch basins, and related stormwater infrastructure.
  • Apply NASSCO PACP/MACP defect coding standards with software to document inspection findings and ensure high-quality video capture and accurate stormwater infrastructure condition assessment.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of CCTV equipment, software and tools; coordinate equipment maintenance and repairs with applicable vendors.
  • Set up safe and compliant work zones, including confined space entry and traffic control, per local, state and federal requirements.
  • Read and interpret GIS (Geographic Information System) data of stormwater infrastructure; update GIS data based on inspection findings.
  • Generate work orders in Cityworks (Asset Management System) for maintenance crews to correct defects found during inspections.
  • Work collaboratively with maintenance crews, engineers, and other staff to communicate inspection results and support follow-up actions.
  • Contribute to a respectful, team-oriented, and equity-centered workplace aligned with King County’s values.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Working Conditions:

  • Onsite Work Details: Crew members will report daily to the Renton Roads Facility (155 Monroe Ave NE, Renton, WA 90856) to pick up and drop off equipment/vehicles, unless an alternative location is approved by the Supervisor. These positions are 70-80% fieldwork.
  • Remote Work Location Requirement: Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will join an innovative and progressive team that is redefining how we work as we transition to the department's hybrid environment. Employees will be provided with a County-issued laptop and must maintain a home workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.
  • Work Schedule: This full-time position will work a 40-hour work week. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible. The typical work schedule is Monday-Thursday, 7am-5:30pm (4-10s preferred).
  • Union Representation: These positions are represented by PROTEC Local 17A.
  • Duration: This recruitment aims to fill three (3) Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) positions with anticipated durations of two (2) years for each of the positions.
  • Necessary Special Requirements:
    • Valid Washington State driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to starting work if selected for this position.
    • The final candidate will be required to successfully pass a pre-employment physical.
  • Physical Requirement: Ability to work outdoors for ~8 hours per shift on uneven slopes, surfaces, grades and terrain in inclement weather & other adverse conditions, while carrying equipment up to 75lbs.
  • Workplace Exposures: There will be exposure to noise, dust, wildlife, and other environmental hazards. Work will be performed in rural and urban settings in close proximity to water bodies. The CCTV equipment necessary for completing this work may create exposure to electrical and chemical hazards. Inspections may infrequently occur in areas impacted by biological or other hazardous contaminants (sewage, hydrocarbons, cooking oil, etc.). Some inspections will require confined space entry and/or traffic control. Work will sometimes occur near heavy equipment/machinery (vactors, excavators, dump trucks, etc.).
