Core Responsibilities of All KindVet Urgent Care Team Members
All team members are expected to:
- Show sincere care and empathy for pets and their owners while communicating clearly and effectively
- Provide excellent client service to foster a warm, secure environment
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills and be comfortable with basic computer functions
- Be physically able to lift up to 50 pounds and remain active on their feet throughout the workday
- Adhere to all applicable health and safety regulations, including OSHA and DEA requirements, and notify supervisors of any compliance issues
- Stay informed about the products and medications used and be able to communicate their proper use to clients
- Understand that veterinary care involves certain occupational risks (e.g., exposure to radiation, anesthesia, and animals under stress) and follow all safety procedures accordingly
- Have a general understanding of the clinic’s operations beyond their specific role
Key Duties of a Veterinary Technician
The responsibilities below represent the standard expectations for this role, though the list is not exhaustive:
- Accurately obtain and record patient histories
- Perform initial patient triage and record vital signs on intake
- Clearly present and review treatment plans and estimates with clients
- Collect samples and conduct basic in-house laboratory tests as directed
- Support veterinarians during diagnostic procedures, surgeries, and other treatments using advanced equipment
- Capture, process, and submit radiographs as needed
- Dispense and administer medications as prescribed
- Provide IV fluid therapy under veterinary supervision
- Deliver attentive nursing care to animals in recovery or with medical conditions
- Set up and prepare surgical instruments, equipment, and patients for procedures
- Ensure all monitoring equipment (e.g., anesthesia machines, ECGs, warming devices) is functioning properly
- Assist with the safe administration and monitoring of anesthesia
- Maintain and sterilize tools, machines, and surgical environments
- Communicate clearly with pet owners about post-treatment care, medications, and patient needs
- Promote teamwork and uphold the high standards of medical care at KindVet of Sarasota
- Utilize veterinary medical software for accurate recordkeeping
- Take on other duties as reasonably assigned
