Job Summary
The Staff Development Coordinator – RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the educational needs of nursing and clinical staff within the Skilled Acute Unit (SAU). This role leads orientation, in-service education, and ongoing staff development programs to promote clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, and high-quality patient care.
The Coordinator collaborates with department leaders to ensure staff competencies align with current standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational goals while fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
Essential Functions
- Develops and maintains an annual education plan addressing the learning needs of nursing and ancillary staff.
- Coordinates and conducts new employee orientation and mandatory training programs.
- Provides in-service education focused on clinical skills, patient safety, infection control, and policy compliance.
- Supports competency validation and continuing education for nursing staff.
- Maintains accurate records of staff training, licensure, certifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborates with nursing leadership to identify performance gaps and implement improvement strategies.
- Promotes a culture of continuous learning and professional development across the unit.
- Serves as a clinical resource by maintaining current knowledge of best practices and regulatory standards.
- Assists with audits, survey readiness, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Participates in interdisciplinary committees related to staff education and quality of care.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of adult learning principles and clinical education methodologies.
- Understanding of state and federal healthcare regulations and compliance standards.
- Excellent presentation, facilitation, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Ability to assess learning needs, develop educational materials, and evaluate program effectiveness.
- Strong collaboration and leadership skills with the ability to influence across departments.
- Organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through.
Qualifications
Education
- Postsecondary education from an accredited school of nursing. (Required)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN). (Preferred)
Licenses/Certifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) – State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the state of practice. (Required upon hire)
- Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Instructor certification. (Required upon hire or within facility-specified timeframe)
Experience
- Three (3) or more years of nursing experience. (Required)
- Prior experience in a long-term care or skilled nursing environment. (Required)
- One (1) or more years of experience as an instructor or educator. (Preferred)
