Job Title: Sanctuary Manager

Location: Kindness Ranch Animal Sanctuary

Reports To: Executive Director

Position Type: Full-Time, Exempt

 

Position Overview: The Sanctuary Manager is a key leadership role at Kindness Ranch Animal Sanctuary, responsible for overseeing daily operations in animal care, volunteer coordination, and facilities management. This position ensures that all operations adhere to USDA protocols and animal welfare standards, fostering a safe, efficient, and compassionate environment for staff, volunteers, and animals.

Key Responsibilities:

Departmental Oversight:

○ Lead and manage daily operations in animal care, facilities, veterinary care, and volunteer coordination.

○ Develop and implement operational plans, protocols, and procedures that align with the sanctuary’s mission and strategic goals.

○ Monitor departmental performance and provide guidance and support to department heads, ensuring optimal functionality and collaboration.

○ Conduct regular staff training and development sessions focusing on best practices, safety, animal care standards, and USDA compliance.

Compliance with USDA Protocols:

○ Ensure all operations comply with USDA regulations and standards, including animal welfare, facility maintenance, and record-keeping.

○ Conduct routine audits and inspections to ensure the sanctuary meets all legal and regulatory requirements.

○ Serve as the primary liaison with USDA officials during inspections and compliance reviews.

 

 

Leadership and Team Development:

○ Foster a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven work culture that promotes teamwork, respect, and professional growth.

○ Lead regular staff meetings to communicate organizational updates, set priorities, and address challenges.

○ Develop and implement strategies to improve team performance, morale, and retention.

Operational Efficiency and Financial Management:

○ Manage departmental budgets in collaboration with the Executive Director ensuring cost-effective operations.

○ Oversee resource allocation, including staffing, equipment, and supplies, to meet sanctuary needs.

○ Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.

Animal Care Oversight:

○ Ensure the highest standards of care for all sanctuary animals, including dietary needs, medical care, enrichment, and behavioral health.

○ Collaborate with veterinary and animal care teams to develop and enforce care protocols tailored to the needs of each species.

○ Monitor animal health and welfare and address any concerns promptly and effectively.

Stakeholder Engagement:

○ Work closely with the Executive Director to support fundraising efforts, donor communications, and community outreach.

○ Collaborate with volunteers, community partners, and other stakeholders to promote the sanctuary’s mission and programs.

Crisis Management:

○ Assist the sanctuary’s response to emergencies, including severe weather, animal health crises, or staff-related incidents.

○ Develop and implement crisis management protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of animals, staff, and visitors.

Qualifications:

● Minimum of 5 years of experience in an animal sanctuary, rescue, or related setting.

● In-depth knowledge of USDA regulations and animal welfare standards.

● Exceptional communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

● Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed

● Preference given to those with a compassionate diet & lifestyle.

 

Physical Requirements:

● Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for extended periods, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.

● Willingness to work hands-on with animals of various sizes and temperaments.

Salary : $45,000 - $50,000
