About Kindness Initiative
Kindness Initiative (KI) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to serving individuals and families in the San Diego Jewish community navigating the challenges of poverty. We offer a unique concierge
service model, providing comprehensive case management and vital community resources.
Position’s Primary Objectives
• Build a Robust Volunteer Base: Recruit, train, and support a reliable team of volunteers to
ensure all KI programs and events are fully staffed and successful.
• Run the Volunteer Program: Take charge of the day-to-day operations and paperwork that keep
our volunteer system organized and professional.
• Grow the Community: Be a champion for KI by visiting external organizations to recruit
volunteers and educate the community on our mission and Jewish values.
• Ensure Volunteer Success: Provide the training, resources, and appreciation necessary for
volunteers to feel confident and valued in their roles.
Key Responsibilities
1. Volunteer Training & Appreciation
• Education & Support: Develop and lead volunteer training sessions so every team member feels
prepared and confident. Provide ongoing advisement and feedback.
• Culture of Appreciation: Organize the annual Volunteer Appreciation Event and find creative
ways to ensure our volunteers feel seen and valued year-round.
• Milestone Projects: Oversee meaningful community initiatives, including Bar/Bat Mitzvah
projects, school donation drives and more.
2. Recruitment & Community Outreach
• Network Growth: Proactively visit local Jewish schools, synagogues, and partner organizations
to recruit a diverse volunteer base and spread awareness of KI’s impact.
• Full Lifecycle Management: Lead the entire volunteer journey; from initial application, vetting,
and onboarding to active placement and post-event follow-up.
• Relationship Building: Develop partnerships with other community organizations to access
additional resources and support for KI programs.
3. Volunteer Staffing & AdministrationUpdated March 2026
• Ensure Coverage: Coordinate scheduling with Department Leads to ensure all daily activities and
special events have the necessary volunteer support; personally cover shifts when essential.
• Data & Logistics: Maintain meticulous records in our CRM and volunteer apps. Handle reference
checks, attendance tracking, and semi-annual evaluations.
• Digital Engagement: Manage monthly volunteer communications updates and use social media
to promote recruitment and celebrate our volunteers' community impact.
• Back-End Support: Handle the "behind-the-scenes" logistics, including shopping for, picking up,
and delivering materials for programs and events.
Requirements
• Professional Experience: 3 years in a coordinator or nonprofit leadership role; Bachelor’s
degree or equivalent experience.
• Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office, CRM software, volunteer coordination apps,
and social media platforms.
• Judgment & Discretion: Ability to handle sensitive matters non-judgmentally, maintain strict
confidentiality, and exercise strong problem-solving skills.
• Organization: Exceptional time management and organizational skills for prioritizing tasks and
maintaining meticulous records.
• Compassionate, patient, and culturally sensitive. Knowledge of Jewish culture and customs is
strongly preferred.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle; ability to lift up to 25 lbs for event
supplies.
Structure
• 40 hours/week (M-F) with approx. 10% evening/weekend flexibility for special events.
• Pay: $28–$30 per hour Health Insurance & PTO.
• Location: In-person (Office and outdoor event spaces in San Diego County).
