What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant General Counsel position at Kinder Morgan?
This is an Assistant General Counsel position at Kinder Morgan, with responsibility on a day-to-day basis for land and right of way transactions related to Kinder Morgan’s business segments (including its natural gas and products pipelines business segments), and other land matters.
The core responsibilities of this position include the drafting, review and negotiation of a wide variety of real estate documents including (i) pipeline and surface easements, rights of way and related amendments, limitations and assignments; (ii) access and temporary workspace agreements; (iii) pipeline crossing agreements, encroachment agreements, and license agreements with governmental agencies; (iv) reimbursement and pipeline relocation agreements; and (v) deeds, bills of sale, quitclaim agreements and other assignment documents and instruments, including review of title commitments and surveys. Other responsibilities include communicating with landowners regarding Kinder Morgan equipment and facilities, infrastructure project support, and litigation surrounding land condemnations, including motions for injunctions and TROs.
In addition to support for land and right of way matters, the position may also include supporting the development, permitting, implementation, and execution of pipeline infrastructure projects.
Position Requirements
Seeking candidate who has been admitted to and is in good standing with the State Bar of Texas, with 5 to 10 years of relevant legal experience with either a reputable law firm or an in-house legal department of a pipeline or other energy infrastructure company.
The attorney will work with and advise representatives of Kinder Morgan’s land and right of way departments, as well as project management and environmental permitting departments, and will also work with attorneys and other employees within Kinder Morgan’s business segments. Kinder Morgan is seeking an attorney with excellent writing, research, and communication skills. The ideal candidate will be highly collaborative, responsive to client needs, and experienced in working directly with employees at all levels of the company, including employees at or above the vice president level. The attorney will be expected to manage a high volume of day-to-day land-related work while also contributing on time-sensitive matters as needed.
