Director - Human Resources

What We Are Looking For

The Human Resources Director - West provides strategic and operational leadership across all HR functions within a specified region or area of the Company, ensuring consistent application of Kinder Morgan’s policies, practices and procedures. This could include directing support for managers in recruiting and selecting job candidates, compensation administration, performance management and supporting managers and employees in their labor and employee relations needs. This role oversees a team of exempt and non-exempt reports and is expected to be a subject matter expert in all HR areas.

What You Will Do

• Subject matter expert with the ability to direct subordinates and client managers and employees in Kinder Morgan’s recruiting and selection techniques, compensation and benefits, payroll administration, record keeping, performance management, HR policies, state and federal employment law, FLSA, and state wage and hour laws.
• Seasoned experience with staffing strategies, compensation programs, succession planning, organizational design, and leadership development.
• Ability to independently conduct or direct others to conduct ethics and other types of employee investigations and assemble a final report and negotiate settlements as required.
• Ensure fair, consistent handling of employee relations issues, investigations, and conflict resolution.
• Demonstrated ability to partner with corporate and/or specific BU client groups and senior executives to develop HR strategies and deliver HR services to support business goals and objectives.
• Proven ability to advocate for change and lead others through change and transition.
• Ability to develop and conduct or direct others to conduct compensation studies and develop solutions for client groups.
• Ability to develop and direct others to develop and deliver HR related training to client groups.
• Ability to manage a team and develop HR professionals.
• Ability to direct the research and analysis of various types of information, organize and prioritize work, give directions to subordinates, and keep required work schedules.
• Ability to work with others, take direction from supervisor(s), focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
• Dependable and have the ability to work under pressure while meeting critical time frames to complete projects.
• Ability to think strategically, make sound business decisions, and understand the business model and economics of Kinder Morgan.
• Understanding of the operational and financial conditions of their client groups’ businesses.
• Position is primarily in an office environment in Colorado Springs, CO with frequent travel to work sites in California and other Western states.

Education

What You Need

• Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration or related field. A non-related degree or a law degree acceptable with additional HR, labor and or employment law experience.
  
  

Experience / Specific Knowledge

• 7 years of HR generalist, benefits, employee/labor relations, legal or other related HR experience. Experience with California and / or Colorado labor laws and compliance requirements.
  
  

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and meet company insurance requirements.
  
  

Working Conditions

• Maintain the highest degree of confidentiality, discretion and the ability to handle and complete multiple tasks/projects.
• Must be self-motivated and demonstrate a high degree of initiative.
• Must be physically able to observe/inspect work outdoors while wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (ex. Hardat, flame resistance clothing and safety-toed footwear for the location) when required.
  
  

Supervisory Responsibility

• Supervisory responsibility for exempt and non-exempt direct reports.
  
  

Preferences

• SPHR, SPHR-California or similar certification.
  
  

Pay Range

USD $149,900.00 - USD $225,000.00 /Yr.
