As an Underwriter you will be responsible for making informed credit decisions and to ensure efficient and accurate evaluation of loan applications while maintaining minimum productivity and quality standards. Your strategic mindset and proficiency in underwriting practices contribute to informed decision-making and the overall success of the organization's lending operations.
Location
Fully remote or In-Office/ Hybrid schedule available.
Pay Disclosure
The starting base salary pay range for this position is $70,000. The actual base is dependent on many factors such as: work experience, business needs, market demands, and other compensation components. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
Qualifications
- 3 years of experience as a mortgage Underwriter
- Has current in depth experience and complete knowledge of Fannie, Freddie, FHA and VA lending guidelines and understands how to those relate to internal and investor guidelines.
- In-depth knowledge of mortgage regulations, guidelines, and compliance standards.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex financial information and assess risk.
- Problem-solving skills to address challenging underwriting scenarios and provide guidance.
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., DE, SAR) and advanced degrees are advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Quality Assurance: Accurately underwrite residential mortgage applications in accordance with Fannie, Freddie, FHA, VA, and internal guidelines
- Quality Assurance: Review and analyze borrower profiles, credit reports (including supporting documentation), income documentation (including tax returns), asset documentation and title reports. To ensure documentation is appropriate to support credit decision
- Risk Management: Assess the creditworthiness of and evaluating other critical indicators to make informed and timely lending decisions.
- Risk Management: Ability to properly assess and respond to fraud indicators
- Risk Management: Analyze appraisals for accurate property valuation for conventional and FHA loans
- Productivity: Meet or exceed minimum productivity standards while maintaining company service level and turn-time standards
- Communication: Maintain open communication internal and external partners
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate closely with AEs, brokers, account managers, and other internal teams on complex underwriting scenarios.
- Compliance Oversight: Maintain a deep understanding of mortgage regulations and guidelines, ensuring that underwriting practices align with legal requirements and industry standards.
- Pipeline Management: Proactively manage pipeline and complete operations support on loan files as needed.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
Work Authorization
Must be able to verify identity and employment eligibility to work in the U.S without company visa sponsorship.
