Summary/Objective:  

The Senior Interior Designer will work on multiple projects ranging in size and complexity, as they move through conceptualization, development and execution of all the design phases. This position may have a dual role working under the direction of the Design Director and/or Principal on many projects and act as “Lead Designer” on specifically assigned project phases or projects. Contributes to and is responsible for deliverables that adhere to KTI’s award winning standards and exceed client’s expectations.


Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for managing multiple tasks, project phases or projects simultaneously on a daily basis to meet project schedules and deadlines, in a fast paced and timely manner.
  • Responsible for the highest level of interior design outcomes, completing projects with accuracy and creativity while meeting or exceeding Client expectations.
  • Comprehend and manage the projects’ contractual scope set forth by the Client, and work within the estimated fee and design hour parameters to ensure profitability.
  • Responsible for providing weekly project report updates to the Studio Director as required, with key focus on communicating deliverable dates and deadlines.
  • On projects assigned as Lead Designer, assist in creating and maintaining project schedules; then responsible for tracking and communicating changes of the schedule to the Studio Director.
  • Work with project team to develop and interpret design programing requirements based on client parameters such as budgets, design style and aesthetic, purpose, and function.
  • Collaborate with, and for certain projects lead the team in developing conceptual imagery, schematic schemes, preliminary material selections and initial space planning as required for the scope of a project.
  • Generate space plans, sketches, elevations and other renditions for presentation purposes and in some cases, lead team members in generating such, for client’s review and approval following KTI’s presentation standards.
  • Capable of creating and executing custom FF&E development for items such as carpets, lighting and furnishings and understands which fabricators can execute such designs. Draw or oversee drawings for these items and review shop drawings.
  • Alongside the Design Director, participate in meetings with clients, architects, consultants, and contractors. For assigned project phases or projects, lead efforts for meetings with clients, architects, consultants and contractors.
  • Coordinate daily with the project team, clients and multiple trades (vendors, fabricators, contractors, consultants, etc.)
  • Based on the design direction approved by the Client, assist in the development of construction documents; coordinating with the CAD Consultant and the Architect or contractor in drafting plans and elevations; working with the team on finalizing all details included in contracted scope. For certain projects, lead these efforts, reporting progress to the Studio Director including redlining the construction document set before final review by Studio Director.
  • Contribute to one’s own and their team’s expertise towards value engineering efforts and update drawings as needed. 
  • Generate and/or direct team thorough documentation of FF&E specifications and architectural/interior finishes, for internal or external procurement, meeting codes and KTI’s specification standards.
  • Working closely with the team ensuring that furnishings will be ordered and arrive to warehouse on schedule and participate in biweekly procurement meetings.
  • In certain projects, respond to contractor and subcontractor inquiries, during the construction phase, and update drawings as needed. 
  • Review and edit FF&E budgets for projects in conjunction with Design Director, Procurement and Accounting to submit to client, and then maintain budgets through the life of the procurement phase to ensure projects are profitable.
  • Attend project installations with team, directing KTI’s installation crew to install FF&E as intended.
  • Participate in ongoing site visits to track progress and verify adherence to interior design documents; review in conjunction with Design Director field reports and punch lists as needed.
  • Responsible for, when assigned, training new team members on project phases and KTI standards. 
  • Review with Design Director business results, both tangible and intangible, from client satisfaction to profitability.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Able to create and maintain trusted relationships with staff, clients, architects, builders, vendors and other professionals in the industry; always projecting a professional demeanor representative of the KTI brand.
  • Demonstrates excellent graphic, verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD
  • Preferred Proficiencies: Revit, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Sketch Up

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language fluently, and communicate verbally and in writing at a professional level


Education and Experience:  

  • BFA or BS in Interior Design or Interior Architecture from a CIDA (formally FIDER) accredited program
  • 5-7 years’ experience, depending on the scope of previous experience
  • Preferred: NCIDQ Certification


Expected Hours of Work:

This role is full-time at 40 hours per week and exempt from overtime. Travel to the various locations may be required and is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area, evening travel may be expected.
