We are looking for a LEAD QUALITY CONTROL TECHNICIAN to join our Grand Junction, CO plant. As a Quality Control Technician with Quikrete Heavy Construction Materials you will be responsible for ensuring quality control of batching, mixing, and delivering high-quality ready-mixed concrete that meets project specifications and customer expectations. This role requires travel to monitor quality standards and perform testing.

About the Role
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the quality of concrete produced in Western Colorado and Moab, Utah area. Specifically, Moab, Durango, and Grand Junction.
- Ensures batching and raw material control procedures are followed as specified in the QA Program.
- Depending on need, they will spend roughly 50% - 75% of their time at the batch plant or in the field performing testing and assessing mix designs in their plastic state.
- Evaluate mix strength performance using key performance indicators to make necessary mix adjustments to maintain adequate overdesign.
- Work collaboratively with the Quality Control Manager to prioritize testing of mix designs in the area. With assistance, create new mix designs as needed.
- Review aggregate test data, mill certs, and pozzolan test reports for their materials to track consistency and quality.
- Update certification files within Stonemont.
- Create or review all the project submittals for the area.
- Attend all preconstruction and other project-related meetings for projects in the area.
- Request specialty testing (i.e., shrinkage, ASR, thermal resistivity, etc.) from 3rd party labs to ensure we meet project-specific requirements.
- Communicate with operations, dispatch, transportation, and sales to address all quality concerns.
- Determine QC coverage priorities and communicate project-specific testing needs with available staff.
- Maintain required documentation, certifications, and mix data for annual and biannual submittals to CDOT/ UDOT and other governing bodies having authority.
- Assist the Quality Manager in planning and performing training meetings.
- Investigate potential quality deficiencies through evaluating available data and observing in-place concrete characteristics and environmental factors.
- Aid sales in educating customers in proper concrete placement, finishing, and curing techniques.
- Coordinate trail batching in anticipation of high-priority or technical concrete placements.
- Participate in the in-place strength investigation process, when necessary, by performing rebound hammer testing and scheduling/ overseeing concrete coring, curing and breaking.
- Complete and update Environmental Product Declaration surveys for each plant in their regions.
- Review project specifications and general structural notes to recommend appropriate mix designs for the required applications. Create Submittals as needed based on those recommendations.
- Assist the Quality Control Manager in writing technical letters addressing quality-related items.
- Monitor next-day and future orders to help make sure the right mix is sent to the right job.
- Answer internal questions regarding mix design characteristics and help dispatch and sales recommend the ideal mix designs for customers' unique applications.
- Facilitate ordering of specialty admixtures for specific project needs.
About You
We Require:
- A high school diploma or GED.
- A minimum of 1–year of QC experience within a construction, industrial, or manufacturing environment.
- Good organizational and math skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
