What are the responsibilities and job description for the Olive Oil Tasting Room Associate position at Kiler Ridge Olive Farm?
We are a small, family operated olive farm and olive oil production company seeking a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to work as an associate in our olive oil tasting room. This is a part-time position that requires commitment to working three days per week. There is potential for the position to continue beyond the fall and for the candidate to take on additional work days as needed. Typical work hours are from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM. We are open Thursday through Monday, and the business is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Starting compensation is $17.50 per hour for the first 40 hours of work (training period), increasing to $18.50 per hour plus tips after the training period. Tips add $3 to $6 per hour to compensation. Both part-time and full-time employees also receive a 30% employee discount on olive oil purchases, and have an option to participate in the CalSavers retirement savings plan.
If you join our team, you will obtain valuable knowledge and experience related to operating a small, sustainable, agricultural business. You will gain an in-depth knowledge of olive oil sensory evaluation and develop skills to educate customers about olive oil. You will also have opportunities to learn about how extra virgin olive oil is produced, including orchard management, harvest, milling, clarifying, bottling, and certification.
Responsibilities include:
- Greeting guests and customers
- Presenting, pouring, and educating customers about olive oil
- Making sales of olive oil and other tasting room products
- Packing and shipping our products
- Cleaning and maintaining the attractiveness of the tasting room
- Helping with various projects on the farm including bottling, composting and tending to our small raised bed vegetable garden.
- Helping serve guests and washing dishes during our monthly events
- Assist with online communication and social media as needed
Minimum qualifications:
- Customer service and people skills
- A positive and professional attitude

- Ability to learn quickly
- Attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize and adapt in response to a fast-paced environment
- At least 18 years of age
Preference will be given to students who are pursuing food science, agricultural business or other related agricultural majors/minors. Prior job experience in hospitality, retail/customer service, or education is a plus.
