Kildonan’s Camp Dunnabeck is seeking a Music Teacher to work as a full-time employee for our six-week camp program (July 1 -August 10). Mandatory faculty training begins Friday, June 28, 2022.
About us:
Founded in 1955, Kildonan’s Camp Dunnabeck is the oldest residential program of its kind. Located on the beautiful Marvelwood School campus in Kent, Connecticut, Camp Dunnabeck is an academic summer camp for students with dyslexia and language-based learning differences. We accept students of average to above-average intelligence. Camp runs for six weeks every summer. Our camp is for boys and girls, ages 8 to 16 years old.
Position Responsibilities:
The music teacher creates a fun, educational, and safe environment for children to explore the world of music. This job is a perfect fit for musicians that enjoy playing music, singing, and inspiring young children.
- Prepare for and deliver instruction using the camper lead interests via lesson plans and activities
- Create a warm and welcoming class environment in which young children can feel safe
- Promote self-confidence and perseverance
- Help students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing, moving to music, playing instruments, and listening.
- Plan and stage music performances for parents (July 23 and August 12 or 13)
Requirements:
- Must have a background in the arts (theater, art, music, etc...)
- Must feel comfortable in an active and noisy setting
- Effective time management and organizational skills to keep a group of students engaged
- Comfortable working and adapting quickly in a fast-paced environment with a variety of personalities
- Must demonstrate an understanding of basic music concepts and be able to communicate those concepts in a developmentally appropriate and age-appropriate manner to campers
- Ability to interact effectively with both children and adults
- Must play a musical instrument – piano and guitar preferred
- Must have a strong vocal experience and the ability to provide an appropriate vocal model for students aged 8-16.
- Must demonstrate the ability to run basic sound equipment and computers
- Ability to pass a background check
