Position Summary
The Teaching Assistant provides instructional, behavioral, and social-emotional support to students while assisting the Classroom Teacher with daily classroom operations. This role is essential in fostering a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment that promotes student growth and success.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Classroom Teacher with daily instruction and classroom activities
- Support students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development
- Implement classroom strategies and accommodations outlined in students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Provide supervision during classroom activities, transitions, meals, and outdoor play
- Encourage positive behavior and social skills using approved behavior support techniques
- Assist with data collection, documentation, and student progress monitoring
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment
- Communicate student observations and concerns with teaching and supervisory staff
- Adhere to all program policies, confidentiality standards, and state regulations
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- NYS Teaching Assistant Certification required
- Experience working with children with special needs preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Patience, flexibility, and a genuine passion for working with children
- Must meet all state, licensing, and background clearance requirements
