Teaching Assistant – Special Education & Behavioral Support
Full-Time | Monday–Friday | Day Shift
Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Teaching Assistant to support students in a therapeutic educational setting. Working alongside the classroom teacher, you will assist with instruction, behavior support, classroom activities, and student supervision to help children succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
Responsibilities
- Assist with classroom instruction and daily learning activities.
- Support implementation of individualized educational and behavioral plans.
- Provide supervision and promote a safe, structured learning environment.
- Help maintain student records and classroom organization.
- Use positive behavior support and crisis prevention techniques when needed.
- Communicate student progress and concerns with teachers and treatment team members.
- Serve as a positive role model for students.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to obtain and maintain Maine State Paraprofessional Certification
- Basic computer skills
- Valid driver's license
Preferred:
- 90 college credits and/or Education Technician Certification through the Maine Department of Education
- Experience working with children or adolescents, especially those with behavioral or emotional challenges
- Previous educational or administrative support experience
