About the Role
Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental tools, and ensuring all equipment is in optimal working condition.
- Assist dentists chairside during various procedures including restorative, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry treatments.
- Take and develop dental X-rays, ensuring proper technique and patient safety in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Manage electronic medical records ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of patient information.
- Provide patient education on oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care to promote long-term dental health.
- Perform vital signs assessments and medical imaging as needed to support comprehensive patient evaluations.
- Maintain strict infection control standards through aseptic techniques and proper sterilization procedures, adhering to OSHA guidelines.
- Support front desk operations by acting as a dental receptionist when necessary, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow efficiently.
- Assist with medical documentation and coding for insurance claims using systems to ensure timely reimbursements.
- Collaborate seamlessly with the team using four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency during procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations including HIPAA and OSHA standards while maintaining a welcoming environment for pediatric patients.
Qualifications
- Valid certification as a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) with current licensure in Hawaii preferred.
- Proven experience in general dentistry with a strong background in pediatric dentistry preferred.
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Dentrix, Care Stack, or Edge; familiarity with medical coding is advantageous.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control protocols, and aseptic techniques essential for safe practice.
- Ability to operate dental equipment including X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and other medical imaging devices accurately.
- Excellent communication skills to explain procedures clearly to patients of all ages and backgrounds.
- Strong organizational skills for managing medical records, documentation, and appointment scheduling efficiently.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations ensuring patient privacy at all times; experience with pediatrics is a plus.
